MG Midget and Sprite Technical - strange engine number

Hello,
does someone know from wich car come this engine:
RKM1 127 E 14257
there is no oil pipe and the oil filter is on the top of the bloc, near the backplate (driver side - rhd)
the seller says, it is a 1098cc.
Is it exact?

It sound like this engine is a "Silver Seal engine" BL used to sell replacement engines as Silver Seal and Gold Seal. If I remember rightly the Gold seal came with the ancilliaries and the Silver seal was a slightly second grade reconditioning with fewer compoments replaced. They came sprayed in silver or gold as appropriate. If it has the oil filter on top of the block it is probably an A+ type block fitted to some of the later BL/Austin Rover cars. As for it being 1098 I am not sure what inline A+ 1098 cars were made, an Ital maybe?. I am sure someone will let know. I have a 1275 silver seal engine and the number is RKM 1126E

with the filter where you describe it can only be a Marina / Ital type 1275cc. All 1098s had the removable tappet chest covers below the manifolds.

thanks a lot

I know it's a shameless advert BUT I spent a lot of time cleaning and painting a Marina engine blue and an Ital red, and then photographing them to produce data not found in any other book...

Daniel Thirteen-Twelve

The Marina van was fitted with a 1098 engine, apparently!

There again, various export markets had different specifications...there are a number of Marina 1.5 diesels in Malta!
Dave O'Neill 2

Mh, a diesel powered midget...

Nah, diesel only for trucks and boats.

Daniel,
Marketing 101 says that you should include some kind of an answer with the ad.
David "Mind you, it should end with a line about seeing page x for more details" Lieb

Daniel wil you be "plugging at silverstone?
I still need to get a coppy and nothing beats an autographed one!
Onno Könemann

Except possibly TWO autographed copies. Twenty years from now, when you sell this pristine copy on ebay, you might find that it was one of your better investments.
David "or would that only be for the first edition?" Lieb
David Lieb

Feedback is always welcome!

The oil filter mounting as you describe it suggests it is a 1275 Marina or 1275 Ital engine. However, of these two types of engine (block) only the Ital is a ribbed block.

I'll be at Silverstone Friday and Saturday . I do have a spare book I can bring with me to sell. Looks like I'll be very busy in the scrutineering bay on both days (7.30 Start on the Friday!)
Daniel Thirteen-Twelve

Scrutineering i can find!
I will buy you a beer after all the hard work

And be gentil with a certain dutch green twincam coupe
he probaly won't finish the race anny wat ;)
Onno Könemann

We've all registered that blatant attempt at a bribe, Onno.
Nick

me no ;)

luckly the twincam does not need bribes!
look for it on silverstone it realy is nice

certenly when you consider the history of the engine...... it might have raced at a certain french track...
