MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Thick black smoke!!!

Hi all

I started my 1500 midget a few days ago and after a few minutes, i revved it up from the carb linkage and was surprised (Nay- shocked!!!!) to see it shoot a dollop of black smoke into the garage..
The more i revved, the more black stuff belched from the exhaust!!

A friend that was here at the time said it could be the problem of a sticking waxstat jet??
He said that this can be removed with no dissadvantages, is this correct?? (can't find me flippin' manual!), is it an easy job as i've never messed with SU's before, i played with twin Strombergs that i fitted to a 1725 Sunbeam Alpine in the past, had them chromed which lead to problems fitting the dampers back in and centralising the jets but overcame these problems by removing the chrome from the bore with wet & dry abrasive paper wrapped around some thin wooden dowelling!!- that car became Very nippy with the twin setup as opposed to the original single stromberg..

Cheers, John :)

EDIT- i ought to have said that the car hadn't been started since last year!!

Make sure the chokes are releasing properly, then go from there...it could be just that simple (or not).

Thanks David

I'll check them over..
