MG Midget and Sprite Technical - This might be a dumb question
I'm looking for a LSD for my 1962 1098 midget racecar. I've been offered a salisbury lsd for a mini - and as I do not know I ask here - will it fit? - I mean the mini is forwheel drive and a complete different construction!! If anyone have a good but used item - I'm interested ole |

Mini is completely different Ole, you need an LSD for a Midget or any other car with the same axle - Morris Minor 1000, A35, A40, Riley 1.5, Wolsley 1500 etc. |

Ole If you want the best try RT Quaife Engineering (look in google for number) Ian |

Ian, IIRC one problem with the Quaife torque biasing diff which I have seen mentioned in their literature before is that it doesn't function if you lift a wheel. I couldn't see any mention in their general blurb but am pretty sure I have seen it somewhere in their info. |

try this company....david lieb swears by them and has one of there LSD...I think its around $500 usa...but with your strong currency...it would be dirt cheap on your side of the pond..,,, you may have to call them about it. http://www.phantomgrip.com/ prop |

Well...the last adwise with the Phantomgrip I don't quite know. You see - I have one. This last weekend I was racing on a track here in denmark, and as I just started the first laps on the timingrounds, I heard a loud crack and lost all power. At first I thought it was the gearbox, but after being towed into the pit I could feel that there were full resistence on the drivingchaft - I took the diff. out and could now see what had happend - the pin going through the PhantomGrip were forced to break right at the edge of the PhantomGrip - a fellow racer told me that he had experienced exactly the same. Thats why I'm now looking for another solution. The only thing I do not know is if it had been better if I had fitted the uprated springs inside of the Grip - I had only the standard springs fitted - because the grip gets wider with the uprated springs, so you have to mill some away in ordre to fit the grip - and I hadn't got the time for that. I'll see if I can get the time to take a photo of the damage tomorrow! |
