MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Triple wipers in the UK

I have just bought a ex USA shell (circa 1970) it is of the triple wiper variety and I am wondering if anybody is using the triple wipers on this side of the pond ? If they are how do they get on with it, because clearly they park the wrong way and may impede vision. I do have a triple linkage to go with it although it is from an MGB, but it should be suitable with the tubing shortened and the drive cable shortened, on the plus side the wiper is two speed. I am not particularly concerned with originality, and I could convert the shell back to UK spec as I have a donor shell as a pattern

I wish I had 3 wipers. I wouldn't have thought they would impede vision. Go on, try it. Two speed as well, ...posh
Geoff Mears (1970 Midget)

Ian, the only area you might have vision problems is as shown in the drawing, upper right corner of the screen. You might also have problems sourcing the correct shorter arms and blades over there.

One of ours is ex-US with triple wipers. The trick is to use LHD arms, which are cranked the other way. That way, when they park they are snug against the bottom of the windscreen.

Mines an ex USA triple wipered midget. The three blades park to the near side and I have absolutely no problem with them, in fact they give a much greater sweep of the screen than UK twin bladed cars. I also have twin speed wiper motor which is great and was well appreciated in some of our recent deluges.

Guys thanks for the replies.
I will go ahead and fit the triple wipers, just confused about the wiper arms now, as Chris's car appears to have the std uk twin wiper type arms and looks to be parked perfectly with arms cranked down and flat as they should be.
Paul: are your wpier arms the same as on Chris's car ??
I already have a 73 that I converted to two speed so I agree its a worthwhile conversion, I just need to find a suitable toggle type switch, as the car I am building is a 67. Are lighting switches suitable and also maybe early MGB's had 2 speed with toggle switches ??
Another thing I can see on Chris's car is that the washer jets are widely spaced, just the same as on the shell I have, so I guess its standard spec.
Chris how did you fit the dash, on my shell there are no captive nuts for the three upper, large phillips headed screws ?? (I was planning to remove the old one from the donor car)
Bill: I waswn't sure if your image shows the view when sat in the car or looking from the front, using Chris's photo as a guide it would appear to be looking from the front, is that correct ?

Ian

The arms on Chris' car are LHD arms. They appear to look the same, but park on the other side so need the kink at the end of the arm to be in the other direction from RHD arms. It's not the sort of thing you notice till you fit the wrong-handed arms and wonder why!

Parts no's:

Spoon fitting for blade, LHD = BHA4893
Straight fitting for blade, LHD = BHA5207 (bright) or BAU5330 (black)

Thanks for the info, I will file it away until needed (next year hopefully)
