MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Tyres

I am thinking of getting some new tyres for my midget.
I'll be running them on my steel Rostyles.
What does everyone recommend?
Thanks
John

I recently fitted Yokohama A drives to Minator minilite replicas. Not easy to find but VERY impressed

My Midgets always handled better on Vredestein. My B's are on Kumo and Toyo, both excellent.

the manufacturer of the tyre is a lot less important than the model from that manufacturer being suitable to your car (and to a lesser extent your driving style and preference)

as an example Toyo - I've had a Toyo tyres on different sports cars and they've been very good - but - I've got Toyo 350 presently on my Midget and they are not good on the Midget (doesn't mean they're not good tyres) whereas Guy has Toyo 330 and is pleased with them

I very much wish I'd tried to get Yokohama a.drives again as they were very good on the Midget

I'll be watching this thread for recommendations on tyres for Spridgets that are driven in a spirited way as if I got spare money I'd changed the 350 despite them have very little (if any) tread wear (they probably outlive me)

Avon CR322 - great, thought they wouldn't be but they were really good. Smaller engined Caterham OE tyre (or was when I got them).

Continental Eco-contacts - very good, but now worn out. nothing between these and the Avons. Still decent in the dry (about 2.5mm left) but have gone exciting in the wet.

Michelin energy E3 - again very good, but a very narrow looking tyre. Mostly unstickable with A series in 155 size. Probably not made any more.

My vote is for Yokohama A-Drives. I've fitted a set of 165/70x13 to my Midget and now done two track days on them (one soaking wet and one dry). They grip the road fantastically well even in the wet. I could just about get the car to slide under full power in some corners at Donington Park but it always felt under control. I was warned they would wear quickly but there is no real sign of that so far. Surprisingly my local tyre place supplied them for around £50 per corner (can't recall the precise amount).

Thanks a lot everyone

so it appear with 3 votes to one the Yokohama A Drives are the ones to go for - so i'll try and get some
Cheers

Another vote for Michelin Energy tyres, running my 3rd set now.
First on 13 inch minilites, sold them but are stil on those wheels with the current owner.
Now run them on 14 inch minilites, excelent on the dry&wet
Even good traction on trackdays!(for a roadtyre that is) ;)

Sorry to disagree Arie but...
Never go for Michelin Energy tyres!
Had a drive in a B with some one and it was to easy to lock the fronts under braking and put out the tail in a corner.
Fun but not safe.

Might differ for midget sizes but absolute sheite for a B.

Vredestein T-trac or Qua-trac are the ones to go for on a midget or B imho.
Good wet and dry performance from both with the T better in summer (but not bad at all in winter)and the Qua supurb in winter.
Not expensive either.

go for 155's on a rostyle

I think Arie uses his car a lot most B owners don't so could it be that the Michelin Energy tyres on that B were hard from age and/or lack of use, the pressures, condition of suspension, ect. - I'm just speculating, I'd don't know, for all I know the B could be in excellent condition and regularly used but these things do make a difference

John,
if you do find some a.drives can you let me know please as I may have to change back to them

Michelin energy for me too. Excellent grip in all weathers, feels rock solid. Paid about £35 per corner. 155/80/13 on wires.
