MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Update for turbo bob

Hi
thought I would copy this so you could see it rather than trawl messages

Put the plug lead on block and disc white/ black as you suggested- When using my jump wire got a nice flash from the block & also my spark plug.I guess this means the coil ( & that lead) are ok.
Took out my dizzy & Checked my connections as you said. The LT wire to the dizzy doesnt connect to earth when points are open, but DOES connect to earth when points are closed- have I got this set right?
I will try the dizzy flash thing later today-

-what should I do next ?
Thanks Very much for advice.cheers col

es the coil is fine by the result of that test.

If you are a little bit clever you can at this stage check the dissy cap and rotor arm. Simply place the rotor arm in position and connect a plug lead into the cap where the rotor arm is pointing to. place a plug on the end of this lead and put the coil lead into the dissy cap, put the cap on and do the coil flash test again. Plug should spark if cap and arm are OK.

By your discription the points are assembled correctly so doing the flick test at the points should result as described.

Let us know what happens, after you have done the basic check on the cap and arm and also flicked the points

hi turbo bob.
thanks so much for your help.
got a flash from the dizzy as you described. Will do the plug / cap thing tomorrow .I assume I flash the plug like i did earlier?
If the plug flashes ( & It should as its new cap/ rotor arm & plugs & HT cables , what should i do then?

OK mate as I remember you didn;t have a spark at the plugs before and if all goes well then you will have tomorrow so fit everything back together and check for sparks at all plugs.

Then we need to check the firing order

it should be 1342 with cylinder 1 at the front of the car and cylinder 4 at the rear. If you remove the dissy cap and turn the engine over you will see that the rotor arm turns anticlockwise so you can check from number 1 that the order will be 1 3 4 2
