MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Vermillion (Orange or red ?)

Hi Chaps,

Thanks for assistance with previous thread.

Just to clarify... I have a 79 1500 which is orange in colour, although in certain light I can convince myself is a shade of red...

If was to order touch up paint would the correct match be "Vermillion ?" some one called it blaze red but I believe that to be incorect ?.

Can any one recommend where to but paint from ? ie Moss... etc ?

Also has any one had their midget re-sprayed recently ?... just wondered what the going rate is ?... as I am considering a colour change possibly ?.... I would do the basic prep my self Ie remove trim inside & out and reduce to a rolling chasis... as for prep of paint work for re-spray... probably best left to the proffs ?....

Thanks

Hi Darbs,
By coincidence both my midgets are red.

1976 in Blaze, 1979 in Vermillion. I believe both colours are relevant to their respective years.

Vermillion could be considered to be an orange but is officially red. Blaze is darker and easier on the eye.

Personally, I don't care much for Vermillion as it is too leary. When stripping out the interior prior to welding, it was apparent that the car was originally Inca Yellow.I wish it had stayed that way.

Moss has a colour chart at the back of their catalogue giving colours for the years of production.

Blaze is actually orabge and AFAIK wasn't available in '76.

The red which was available at that time was 'flamenco'.

p.s. anyone want a litre of Inca Yellow cellulose?

This is Blaze

Hi Thanks for your reply...

So would I be correct in thinking Vermillion is the "orange red" that I have then ? 1979 ??

Any info on approximate re-spray cots please ?... as I am becoming a little less fond of the orange colour....

Thanks

Colour is matched and is Blaze 100%, 1974, maybe a better picture

Hi Alex,

Vermillion or Blaze ???...

Either way that looks to be very like the colour of my midget.

Whats the Black hose inside the boot ? is it your fuel line ?

Also curious about the piece of what looks like stainless steel flat bar bolted across the front section of your boot ?

Sorry to be nosey.... just curious ??

Darby,

There is an excellent post in the 2008 Midget & Sprite General archives alphabeticaly listed under 'Paint Code' by Barry Lacey of Illinois. Shows actual colours and years on photos of cars.

The black hose is a fuel line feed from the HP pump and filter in the boot, have a VVC K engine in the front, the stainless bar is the inside mount for the RTL, picture shows the linkage from under the car. Every midget should have one!!

Alex Sturgeon

Hi all,

Having consulted the archives, and the colour seems to me to be Vermillion....

Thanks fo rall your help....

Alex... thanks for photo... looks impressive... do you race yours ?...
