MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Zetec & type9 gearbox?

Hi all, I asked before re MX5 now how about the Zetec option. I read in Kitcar good reports about these engines and how cheap and easy they are to obtain from accident damaged new cars. Also that they are very compact, they seem an ideal modernisation choice. Has anyone practical experience of fitting one to a MK111 midget. Also re 5 speed gearbox, type 9 seems hard to get now and expensive. Are there any altenatives? regds beegee

Darren, wow.

What degree of difficulty was that to fit? Looks like plenty of room other than the hieght.
Lawrence Slater

I had already run it for a year or so with a ford xflow lump in it , that is where and when most of the fabrication took place , fitting the zetec was fairly easy its actualy shorter in length by an inch or so yes the height is a little taller mostly around the cam pullys, and I had to make a small ( inspired by mgc carb bulge ) bonnet bulge

Nigel,

If you seen pics of darren, its obvious he collects debts for the mob,so no heater needed...haha

I dont know about the inlet manny, but that new tranny he got sure rocks the boat...remember those vids of him driving and shifting like it was a motor cycle...just wicked fast. NICE!!!

In addition to the Archives of both here and the 16V section, a lot (most/all) of us 16V nutters have migrated to www.kmidget.com - I know of a few over there (as well as Darren) with Zetecs in and running. There are more K series cars about though..
Rob Armstrong

That really is a nice mod, im sure kimber and donald healy would have employed it had they been around today and was still running the show.

Rob - in error I searched www.midget.com. Don't go there - SWIMBO will not be amused.

B Gore,
bear in mind that the name Zetec was applied by Ford in a general manner so covers different engines

Zetec engines could be very old now so you might also consider perhaps the Ford Duratec (also a general name) engines that also went into Mazdas
