MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - OT - Rover 75

Off Topic - but not really, after all the ZT IS a 75. Saw my fisrt 75 in Honkers yesterday and boy doesn't it look classy against all the perceived classy cars here MB's and BMW's).

Now wheres a good dealer to buy that 75?

Merry Christmas.

PS Dave if you read this - I also saw the Jag article - haven't seen one X-type here - only the fab ZK8/XJR's!

>>Now wheres a good dealer to buy that 75?

Have 2 get Kernhans to open a branch out there....
Often wondered if some enterprising dealers could do something like that.

Mind you, have enjoyed a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie at my local MG-R dealer this AM. What did we talk about? Oh, this and that........!

Dave

Eh! It's bloody freezing here! The place is full of German cars. God I return I leave for LHR tomorrow and the EVO is at MAN. So will be wizzing in autopilot mode past your place on the pm of the 24th! Train or BA up to MAN! Mulled wine - no just Tetleys here m8!

Well, lets hope to meet in the NY and open that dealership over here!

I'm sure though that the likes of us could do well in a dealership. Why:

1. We know the product.
2. I can only sell something I believe in!
3. So should it be Flint, Neal & Harrison?

Night night off to the land of EVO's tomorrow am!

Jerry Flint

Jerry,

If you've not seen a ZT yet then I think you'll be pleased with the experience when you do. The car has real presence, even moreso than the Rover 75 and looks good alongside any spec. Bavarian Sierra or Murkmobile. I've now seen Red, Blue, Anthracite and Silver ZT or ZT-Ts on local roads so the other punters like them too ..... :)

would you put a alcoholic in charge of a pub? :O)

kevin neal

Flint,NEAL,Harrison.......and MEGA?
Mega

we could specialise in recaro seat conversions.
kevin neal

What - convert them into seats .... :-)

Getting MEGA to sell MGs ?

Sounds a little like Gerald Ratner, he nearly went bust for telling people that his shops sold cr*p.

Just a thought!

Are you saying we are TOO knowledgeable? Truth is your right, there are many dealers out there that don't know a damn thing about the product!

Those that do will survive!
Jerry Flint

Just saw an old mate from Derby. Told me that Derby is getting a new MG Rover dealer - Luffield (same as Loughborough) to replace the closed D.C.Cook. I also note that Northampton has a new dealer to replace the bankrupt Henlys, Bradford (Yorks) has a new dealer in Dixons to replace Appleyards which turned to Ford just b4 the Rover-BMW farce and that Nottingham has a new dealer Gordon Lamb (same as sheffield) to replace Hatfields (Sytner). I hope this is a sign that MG Rover are to increase their dealer network or at least maintain it.

Went to Meadowhall yesterday and saw 4 new MG ZR's in the space of 5 minutes including.... a green one! Blue looked amazing - mite note change the cougar for a ZS now!

Do you think longbridge send people out to test the dealers for "service"?
It seems stupid that MG-ROVER spends a fortune on advertising only for hard won customers/potential customers to be lost because of bad dealers.

kevin neal

Kevin Neal, Essex WROTE asking:

<< Do you think longbridge send people out to test the dealers for "service"? >>

Twenty years ago ARG certainly employed agencies to do this. This included sending people posing as potential new car buyers. My evidence? The best; that of my own eyes and ears. They certainly should do so now. Not only did it keep Dealers and Service outlets on their toes, but helps to identify those who for the want of better words, show room for improvement!

I can assure all that I know from the horses mouth that dealer issues are well appreciated at Longbridge. Dealing with them (no pun intended) is another matter. I do wonder if the anticipated expansion of cars being sold by large retail chains will provide the needed kick up the back side that many dealers seem to need to shake off their 'we're immune' attitudes.

Rog

The problem is Rog that given an choce to sell Hondas Nissans etc or MGFs which would you pick if you ran a car Supermarket?

Mega

Depends on the economics of the deal.

Back to the R75- and why not? ;o)

Absolutely smitten with ours- it is a truely wonderful motorcar. Not a sporty motor (I'll bide my time, and get a ZT next time), but sublimely smooth.

A perfect foil to the rather loud (thanks to Trevor Taylor's engineering!) MGF in the stable!

I only saw one 75 the last time I was in HK earlier last year- I presume that there is a dealership in HK still?
Rob Bell

Rob

The car I saw was in the showrooms that occupy the Arrival/Departure lounges at the old Kai Tak airport using airport transfers tonbridge!

As is usual when you sell something - you think "shouldn't have done that". The car does look like a thing of beauty - like you though I think the ZT is even better! Hope to get the ZT385 when released!

Jerry in shivering Oxfordshire!
Jerry Flint

Never mind Jerr,....I heard that a guy in Surrey has just bought a V6 Conn SE in gold, and is completely over the moon with it. You never know, he may just bring it up to Oxon for you to see and drool over sometime ;-)
Dave

Dave

I think he's rather pleased too! What you doing Sunday - there's loads of EVO's I-VII meeting at Donnington - lunch - musuem and chat?

Jerry

Rob,

Glad you are enjoying the 75. We too like ours. I am not sure about the performance though. We now have 1k on the clock and over Christmas had the whole family on board tottling down some country road just outside Henley behind 2 slow moving cars when the road opened up to a straight hill. Pull out and stepped on it and the car flew forward in complete silence past both cars. Son in the back suggested it would have been quicker in the F. I pointed out we were doing 95 up the hill and that was good enough for me.

A great car and completely different experience to the F. Hope the Mark III F comes with a telly option too!

Cheers

Patrick

PS is the loadest noise in a 75 the pentrol being gulped down?
Patrick

Rob, Jerry

There are a few 75s in HK but they were only introduced just before BMW dumped Rover and then Rovers weren't sold here anymore. There was a combined BMW Rover Land Rover MG show room but the MG and Rover logos were taken down late last year. However according to the local paper the MG Zs will be here this year. Where I live there is a silver 75 that occasionally parks near by (much nicer than the Japcr*p!)

Martin
Martin Davidson

Thanks for that clarification Martin. Mind you, I was amazed at the number of Rovers found tootling around the streets of Macau- far more than in HK. I even spotted a couple of MGFs there...

I guess the dealership there probably suffered the same fate as the BMW/LR/MG/Rover one in HK ...
Rob Bell

I too have a Woodcote Blue Rover 75 2.5 and very nice it is. having owned a number of Rovers over the years the 75 is a pleasure to drive and a complete opposite to our other Rover an MGRV8. I wish the ZT or even better the ZTT was about two years ago but definitly a car for the future.
Just as a side issue has anybody got navtrack on there 75 as we have mislaid our cd for the satellite navigation and would love to copy somebodys disc rather than paying £150 and it turning up a day latter.

Bill
Bill Cole

The Sat Nav in the 75 is the old Philips Carin system that is now managed by VDO. The disks in the Carin system are Philips CDi format and since I can use my Carin CDs in the my 75's Hi Line system, must assume that the 75 is as well. I always throught that you could not copy CDi disks with a standard PC CD writer.

I am also not sure that it is a good idea to ask people to pirate software for you on a public board!

Two bits of good news. It is possible to get CDs in the UK for about £85-90 each or indeed the whole of Europe for 260! I have the URL at home and could supply if you are interested. THe other bit of good news is that if you got your 75 new then you get an update CD within 6 months of purchase in the hope that you will then take out a subcription!

Cheers

Bill,

Try Edwothys on www.edworthys.co.uk on 01296 482626. I have only used them to buy additional CDs for Germany and France. They are quick and helpful. They are currently advertising CDs at around £80 each. My last order came to £90.50 including tax and shipping.

Hope this helps

Cheers

I see that MG Rover has a new dealer in Harrogate - Romans Motor Company (pendragon in other words) to replace Appleyards that shut down last year and is now a Vauxhall dealership
