MG MGA - 1500GE -U-H- 11156
I've recently bought into a '61 1600, # GHNL 99062, which has engine # 15GE-U-H- 11156. The previous owner had the car since'76 and believes the engine to be original. I do not believe this to be the case. Has anybody any familiarity with this engine designation? I have not seen the 15GE- ...designation mentioned in any litterature, and I am not anxious to spend $50 and a month to have the 'Heritage Trust' affirm a negative result. Metropolitan?... |

I think I am right in saying that 15GE engines were fitted to M.G. Magnette Mk3s Steve |

Don, Your engine is not from an MGA. A 1600 MGA engine would have the prefix: 16GAU. The engine that is installed in your car is from an MG Magnette MK III. The BMC part number for this engine was: 48G 357 R. Whereas the MGA 1600 part number was: 48G 157 R. The 15GE engine has a bore of 2.875" and displaced 1489cc as compared to the MGA 1600 bore of 2.968" and 1588cc displacement.
