MG MGA - 1600 Block

A club member is selling a 1600 block(only). It has no crankshaft and main caps. However, it comes with rods & rod caps. All for $100. I was thinking of picking it up for a spare.

Would a crankshaft & main caps fit from another engine? Any suggestions on what to look for when inspecting it?

They both will fit but for the main bearing caps to fit properly They need to be installed and line bored by a knowledgable machine shop. Crank shaft should be magnafluxed before you spend any money on having it turned.

A bit of care when looking for replacement parts, the 1588 and 1622 cranks and caps are different.
