MG MGA - a few issues...

I wonder if anyone can help.

I own a 57 coupe, with a 5spd sierra box and fast road 1860 b engine. fully uprated brakes and suspension.

a few things are troubling me at the moment.

1, fuel gauge has started reading back to front, still reading properly along the scale, but E= full and F= empty

also, the electric tacho (RVI) from a mgb was working fine, but once the ignition is switched on, the needle goes to max and stays there. the two are not related, but i can't work out what has happenned.

i'm about to fit a 45weber dcoe this weekend, anything i need to know???

many thanks in advance

Paul, they may be related, check the ground connections to the instruments and chassis behind the dash.

Paul,
I also have a B engine in my 62 roadster with an RVI electronic tach. I was reading that electronic ignitions may interfere with electronic tachs of the RVI type. My tach bounces a bit and is about 500 rpm off but is liveable. Check the current wire loop on the back of the tach. Have a good day!

Electric tach and fuel gauge should be on totally separate circuits and unrelated. Test then independently. For fuel gauge circuit and diagnostic see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/circ_f1b.htm
For fuel gauge calibration see here:
http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg_06.htm
For the easy way see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg_10.htm
If you want to know how it works, see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/fg_01.htm

For conversion of electric tach to negative earth see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et202a.htm
For the other more rare model see here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et202b.htm
and here: http://chicagolandmgclub.com/driveline/0505/mgb_tach.html

If the electric tach is actually faulty, consult a higher god, as that is beyond my area of expertice.
