MG MGA - A Very Good Day!

Milestone!! Drove the finished chassis around the block today. Five main 1800 coupled to a Sierra five speed through an MGB clutch. Flawless performance :>
Thanks all,
Doug

P.S. All the correct numbers matching stuff is also restored and stored away for posterity purists.

Hi Doug. Just what do you think you are doing, driving an MGA without it's body? Are you TRYING to make the rest of us look bad? Showing off a beautiful, PERFECTLY restored, shiny MGA chassis in PUBLIC! You have some nerve! lol. So congratulations on this important milestone! Wish I could have been there, I bet it was a thrill, and also a super photo opportunity. You DID get some photos I hope? Please let us know when your A is complete. We will expect a full and detailed report. Congratulations again on a job well done. Cheers! Glenn

Bet the neighbors had a good laugh. Look forward to seeing the complete car at some future shows.

Doug:

What five-speed Sierra conversion bell housing did you use? The one for the smaller or larger flywheel? If you used the one for the smaller (MGA early MGB)did you have to modify it to fit the 5 main crank? Any details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
I reworked a standard low starter 1500 backplate by filling the countersinks and boring it out to accomodate the 1800 rear main seal. I also purchased the smaller MGB flywheel to work with the crash type starter. I forget exactly what year it is, but it fits the small bellhousing without needing any modification at all. Incidently, this particular flywheel is significantly lighter than the stock 1500.

Thanks Doug...

One more question... Since you used the MGB clutch, did you have to make any change in the release bearing yoke and mount? (I'm assuming you used the Highgear MGA 5-speed conversion kit.)

Steve,
I told them exactly what I combination I planned and they sent me the appropriate adaptations. Unlike the OEM, they just bolt on the right brackets. Cool.
