MG MGA - Actual carb float level?

I know about how to set the float level according to the book but where should the level be in the main jet? I can see the level and it is about 1/8" down the main jet. Should it be at the top of the main jet but not spilling over? The reason I ask is that the engine has a hesitation at initial throttle opening but then seems to run fine. I am wondering if the float level is incorrect. Thanks and have a good day!

What you have should be fine, I would not go any higher. You may want to check for vacuum leaks and worn throttle shafts that may be leaning it out a little just off idle but are too small to affect performance at wider throttle openings.

Have you checked there is oil in the dashpots? The dashpots enrich the mixture when the throttle is initially opened by dampening the movement of the piston assembly.
