MG MGA - Australia Here I Come

Looks like I am going to be a regular visitor to Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) over the next 3 years.

My son and family are taking up a 3 year posting with Sony at their Australian HQ in Sydney.

Looks like Barry Gannon will be seeing a lot more of me now down in Melbourne! It will also be good to take the opportunity to meet up with the rest of you MGA fanatics down under.

First visit likely to September/October. I will advise nearer the time. I could always bring the odd spares over in my luggage - up to the weight limit. No 5-speed conversions!

Cheers

Hi Steve, where in Sydney will your son be ? Sydney is now a big place. A days camel ride from North to South. My contact info is on this site ,call me when the dust settles . I have a well sorted A you can use on a club run. I have my new "toy " to use. A '65 3.8 S Jaguar. Getting soft in my declining years. Regards Sean

Steve,

The annual Concours and Display Day of the MG Car Club of Sydney is on 16th. October 2011.
Club meetings are held early in each month.
I have attached a map of the main Sony building in Sydney. Is that where your son will be working?

Yes, that looks like the place, north west of the bridge. My son said that my old company (BAE Systems) has offices across the road from him (40-52 Talavera Road). He will be sorting out accommodation after arrival, but is looking to the north / north-east area.

Do you have car boots and flea markets? As Gary says, a spot of Shelley jack hunting could be on the cards!

Steve,

The big flea market in Sydney has automotive parts on Fridays and Sundays.

Steve,

if you can manage it, I'd recommend the classic "rally2" that they hold in Adelaide - loads of British and other foeign classics drive round the city and then up into the hills to the motor museum (though some don't quite make it). Some people dress up in period costume, and when I went a Ford Capri in true Ford Capri Orange driven by a 70's supler-fly pimp won the best car (no accounting for taste). It's usually around late September / October, is great fun and if someone else is driving, a great load of wine to sample!

Have a great time,

Grant :-)

The Adelaide rally is called the "Bay to Birdwood" event, and yes, well worth it. Dave Godwin & I in our MGA's did the event about 3 years ago.

Steve Accomadation is very tight in Sydney . A bit of foreward searching would be wise Sean

I agree with Gary the "Bay to Birdwood" rally is well worth seeing, or entering. It is in late September so it should be when you are in Australia.
The Birdwood Car Museum is worth a visit anyway.

It is a company move for my son. The company over there with you has a department looking after their rental requirements, schooling etc. I take my hat off to the Australian organisation for the way they are handling it all. The biggest issue at the moment seems to be the size of the swimming pool and the number of en-suite bedrooms required for us visitors!

Cheers
