MG MGA - Boot Latch
The boot lid on my '59 MGA is very difficult to release. I tried a little white grease on the slide on the trunk lock itself as well as some on the trunk release lever at the rotation point. This did not seem to make much difference. Any suggestions for making the boot easier to open? BTW, I did check the archive's but found nothing related. Cheers - Dennis

The rubber seal around the trunk lid will help it open up if you don't have the proper one. The other thing is to adjust the latch which is held in by the two screws. It will move in or out and adjust to lock tight...... and still be able to open it up. the hinges can also be adjusted to help alinment. If you can't get it done this weekend bring your tools to the airport using airport transfers sevenoaks on Tues the 10th and I can help you before I fly out at 7pm. It just takes a little time and it will work great

Dennis, Pull the spare tire and cover before doing this adjustment in case you get it wrong. Try putting an extra bit of rubber seal in the channel six inches either side of the release. It should be thick enough to stick up a bit over the lip of the channel. If the release now works correctly you just need that extra thickness of seal. If it doesn't work right the problem is in the mechanical adjustment/alignment. Good luck ! Tom

I too have this problem. I did not realise there was any give in the alignment of the hinges. Are you able to adjust them at the point the hinge joins the boot lid or body, or both. I've already installed a fresh seal. Cheers, Jason
