MG MGA - chassis number
| From a February 2003 thread <<<snip>>> Koen Struijk, MGA Register Holland wrote: In the US the DMV people often use engine numbers as the VIN no. For some reason they just want a car to have a number and don't care what it is. <<<snip>>> Ford was the first mass producer of automobiles in the US starting with the model T and followed by the Model A. On the few Model A's I've worked on there was no VIN number plate. However, there WERE two numbers: One on the engine and the same identical number on the frame. The number on the frame is invisible with the body mounted. When vehicle registration was first started the only visible number on new FORD cars was the engine and as it was the same number as the chassis number, the ecngine number bacame the VIN number.
