MG MGA - Coil Bracket.
Does anybody know what, if any. differences there are between the MGA coil mounting bracket on the engine mount - Part No AHH5945 and the MGB bracket - Part No AHH6857 Garth Bagnall.

Not sure if this helps, but the coil bracket for both MGA and MGB is listed as the same part number by Moss in the US catalog: P/N 470-055

Does anyone know when the coil support, fitting under the coil and bracket at the generator was no longer used by BMC on the 1500, leaving just the bracket to hold the coil? -M.S.

Martin, "Original MGA " by A.D.Clausager gives two possible dates ( page 59.) 29710 (Oct 57 ) Modified bracket for ignition coil mounting on dynamo. and : 45905 ( Aug 58 ) Modified bracket for ignition coil mounting on dynamo. Hope this helps. Ray.

The 1500 type coil bracket on top of the generator was changed a couple of times, very minor changes. The switch to the coil bracket on the engine mount came later. This is commonly refered to as the 1600 type coil bracket. I don't know how to prove it, but past experience tells me this happened with advent of the 15GD engine (high starter position and flanged output on gearbox) in January 1959, four months before introduction of the 1600 model. In the few months to follow some other "1600 type" changes occured. Feb 59 change to later style disk wheels. Apr 59 front frame extention and spring pans changed to accept optional sway bar. May 59 first 1600 engine and body style change.
