MG MGA - Cup Holders
I just finished restoring my 1600 and took it for a drive only to realize that I have nowhere to put my soda can/coffee cup. Has anyone come up with a method or a device to hold soda cans and/or coffee cups? Best regards, Michael

A large size cut out Ladies bra, strung between the sidecurtain knobs might do the trick......lol Actually, a small sized cardboard coffee cup wedges nicely in the door pocket on roadsters! ;-) Glenn

Better still, get the owner of the bra, i.e. the wench in the passenger seat, to hold your coffee for you! :-)

I watched Super-Size Me the other day on UK TV and was amazed to find that car manufactures now have to supply larger cup holders for the American market... Personally if a car comes with a cup holder I don't buy the car... it's usually slow and has soft suspension. Aren't you suppose to be driving... LOL !!! Besides you need the other hand to gesticulate at the people that cut you off. Sorry just got a think about cup holders... Happy motoring... <MARK>

I must admit I was thinking along the same lines as Mark. You have an MGA - why on earth would you need cupholders? BTW my MG ZT has a cupholder, and the only time it has ever been used is when driving slowly round a game reserve. Life's too short.. to worry about cupholders!

Glenn A large or better yet an extra large Tim Hortons cup fit nicley in the door pocket. A small coffee doesn't get me out the drive through. Go big or go home LOL. Kris

Other than that I found a wide bottom stainless sttel coffee mug at 7-eleven that I use. It sits on the floor or seat and won't tip over. Kris

Michael, see how hard it is to get a straight answer around here! :-} Has anyone tried the Moss excuse for a cup holder? Steve.

Just stop, get out of the car, get your drink, find a seat with a nice view and enjoy life. Then get back in the car. :D

I was just out for a drive the other day, and thought about where a drink could be held...With two people in the car, I don't think there'd be room for much more than a shot glass--unless you were fairly small (I'm not, although my passenger was). Lots of answers about drink then drive, etc--but I remember back in my youth, doing coast to coast runs in my old B, and hot coffee in the winter (stainless steel thermos) or cold drinks in the summer were important for creature comfort. The B had a bit more room than my current A (or maybe i just take up more space now)--but finding a place to rest the drink was problematic then, too. Since my consumption took place at highway speeds, in low traffic areas, I didn't need to shift, so I could "one hand" it until the cup was empty. About the only thing I think that might be practical, would be to fabricate your own custom holder that would hang from the two LTD pins on either side of the rear view mirror, and hold a cup in front or the speaker grill, high enough to avoid conflict with the gearshift.

My mind wanders back to the hot mid-summer days of yesteryear, winding country roads bordered by fields of golden wheat waving in the breeze, a wicker basket (picnic and said drink inside) strapped to the boot, a rug stowed behind the seat - and your daughter sitting next to me.......Dream on!

Michael, this works. Get a cheap cup holder and remove the tab that's supposed to hang in the window slot, then just use 1 screw to hold it in place inside the very front of the door pocket. That's the only place you'll be able to reach. Soda cans, water bottles and handleless coffee mugs slip right in. The only time they spill is when you shut the door. Mark, 1. You might want to align your ft end 2. You let guys cut you off??? Mister T, water and coffee come in handy if you're doing more than just driving around a game reserve Steve, I've been to the L.A. area, where is this, " seat with a nice view,".

I have done the door trick, and even fashioned a cupholder to sit on the trans tunnel ahead of the armrest. OK but no cigar. The best was a simple cupholder screwed to the floor just in front of the passenger seat next to the trans tunnel. I had no passenger on that trip to St. Paul, so no problem there. Backed out the screw and removed the holder for showing at the meet, and no one was the wiser. Sure beat the hell out of the old "I-hope-it stays-balanced-in-the-door-pocket" or the "stuff-it-in-your-crotch-to-free-your-hands" tricks. I like RL's, Fred's, and Kris's solutions, too.

Gents, Go the a marina, boat or yacht dealer. They have gimbaled (sp) cup holders ususally in stainless steel. Take plenty money or much wampum. Jim Haskins

Fred, I could show you dozens of them! Take your pic from ocean view, city skyline, mountain ridges or just about anything you can imagine. If you make it out here again I'll have to take you to a few. :)

Moss carries a very clever generic drink holder that we're adding to our British catalongs. It slips under the edge of the floor mat. I've got one in my TD and it works great. Go to the Moss website and enter part number 100-785 in the search blank. If the webmaster hasn't gotten it added to the British side, check out the F-150 store site at the bottom of the page, it appears there. Craig Cody Moss Motors, LTD

Last year, I put two of Jeff Zorn's (LBCarCo) cup holders in my 1960 roadster. These are black plastic, they fold when not in use to about half inch in thickness by 4x4 inches. To use them, you fold the front covers downward to form a base for the drink cup, and expandable arms also fold outward to hold the cup at about a three inch height. I placed mine about three inches ahead of the doors on each side. They are not obvious when folded, when open you can kick them on entry or exit (no surprise there). These were cheap as I remember it ($8?). Work great for my needs.

Hey Craig, that's not a bad idea! Wish I thought of that. I could be a thousandaire. :)
