MG MGA - Devin MGA on eBay ?

Are finds like this really worth anything ?

Or is this just an overpriced Frankenstein ?

With these special car I am always leary of bidders who place the first bid and who have very low feedback credits. It always seems as if a friend etc. has made the bid just to stir up interest.

Very interesting car in all rights , but alot of work necessary to make it pretty.Would be a wonderfull buy for a vintage racer.

It looks very well made, a serious car in its day. I'm not usually into that sort of thing, but this one does look extremely interesting. Depending on how it will qualify for classic racing, it could be very competitive in the right hands (with a lot of work).

He also has a body shell that has a buy it now at $2,500. I think that is a better deal than $25,000 for the whole car.

I think Ron Gammons or Brown and Gammons the MG parts specalists, races a Devin here in the UK although I'm not sure what engine and running gear is used on Ron's car.

The value of a period sports racing car depends a tremendous amount on provenance and history - of which this car has none. It may have raced, but just as likely was a street play toy for someone, albeit one that a lot of work went into. The allusion to Bill Devin knowing about it may be of substance or it may be puffery - without evidence it doesn't affect price.

There really isn't much to relate the car to an MGA, bar the front A arms and engine (which seems an unlikely choice)

If the car had a history, it should be worth the asking price as it would be eligible to run vintage events. If not, it is just a neat old car that you wouldn't be able to race most places, and that is a pretty high price for a street play toy that will need a complete restoration.

I rather like the Devin bodies in a 50s sports racer sort of way, but all in all, I think my Jamaican is a much more usable car if you aren't racing. Of course one of each would make a nice combo - good thing no one told me about the spare body before it sold - I don't need any more projects!
