MG MGA - Disc brake adaptor plates

Some time ago I found a pair of the expensive disc brake adaptor plates for sale at a car show. The seller did not know what they were and they were very cheap, can't remember exactly how much, so I bought them. They are unused.

It is time to overhaul the brakes on my car and I am thinking about changing to discs and yes, I have read all the arguments about whether or not it is worth it. I have also been encouraged by being given a pair of disc brake hubs by someone who had converted from steel to wire wheels, my car is on steel wheels and as it is a very late 1500 the wheels are of the 1600 type if that matters.

There is however a possible problem. Looking at the various conversion kits on the market some seem to use MGA and some MGB callipers but as far as I can tell the adaptor plates look identical. Does anyone know if there are different adaptor plates?

Malcolm, I've seen many different plates & solutions for this conversion. I cannot comment directly on what's in front of you, but using MGB components seems to be the way most people go. If you're set on switching to front disc brakes, the following link will provide the ins & outs of this conversion. There are a couple of pages you can scroll though; good luck.

Sorry I am afraid I havent a clue. But just thought I would mention, in case you are not aware, unlike drum brakes, disc dont have return springs, so the odd master cylinder might struggle to allow the pads to release completely after braking. Plenty on it in the archives I am sure.
Good luck
