MG MGA - Fuel Pressure vs Volume ?

I am installing a fuel pressure regulator on my MGA Race car, and am faced with some questions. I know our cars, even in an advanced state of tune do not require to much fuel pressure. Someone told me do not worry about your pressure, because you need fuel volume. I cant imagine I would need to run a larger gauge fuel line from the tank to the pressure regulator. Any thoughts on this?

A 5/16" line should provide adequate fuel flow for any A.

I agree - stock line is adequate.
It works just fine on my Twincam feeding a couple of Webers at 7500 RPM.

The reason you see larger fuel lines on injected cars is that the fuel is constantly recycling and returning to the tank and the pressures are in the order of 45 psi instead of 3 psi.

Andrew - The original SU fuel pump supplied 2.7 psi at 8.4 gallons per hour. The larger, LCS pump used ont he Twin Cam MGAs and the big Healeys provide 3.8 psi at 15 gallons per hour (see my article, SU Fuel Pumps 101 at http://www.custompistols.com/cars/articles/dd_su_fuel_pumps_101.htm). Unless you are using an aftermarket pump, such as the large Facet pump, you wouldn't need a pressure regulator. If you are using a pump that supplies greater pressure, then a pressure regulator that will hold the pressure at 4 psi or less would be required. I agree with Bill and Jeff, that the original size fuel line should be adequate. Good luck - Dave
