MG MGA - Goes in purple

....comes out yellowish.

A couple of years ago I switched over to silicone brake fluid. At the time I flushed the system out with alcohol and replaced all the rubber bits.

I'm perfectly happy with the results However I notice one thing when I bleed the brakes every season....the first brake fluid out of the system has turned a yellowish green color. If I bleed for a little while I'm back to the purple.

Any thoughts? Is this a heat reaction?

I've never noticed that before. Mine usually comes out a darker blue.

Depending on the DOT classification, there are different colors of fluid.

Why do you need to bleed at all? The purpose of bleeding with normal brake fluid is to purge fluid because it absorbs water, which is not the case with Si fluid.

Having said that I have noticed too that the colour fades to clear.

Dominic,

I just got in the habit of bleeding the brakes as part of my ritual at the begining of the driving season.

I will comment the brake pedal travel reduces noticably as the brakes heat up. At first I thought maybe it was air, but I've bled them all out very well. Now I believe its because the brake fluid expands with heat.
