MG MGA - Got to laugh at yourself

Having owned my '1960' 1600 for longer than my son has been alive. Story on its own how my wife found my car, but I digress.

It was time for the oil and filter change on the old girl as well as look at any other little niggling problems that I could fix. Like that very minor weep happening around the oil filter (late Tecalamit).

Under I go drain the oil, off comes the filter bowl (excellent no spill on the garage floor). Lets pull the head out of the way, yes the block looks all good nice clean groove for the lip of the head to fit into. You would think they would have a seal in there wouldn't you. Hmmmm lets have a quick look at the parts break down, what is this two seals either side of the head. Now this is where I would love to blame the previous owner but that would be a little unjust after around 23 years. Impressed I was only suffering a minor oil weep.

Barney, yes when I went back inside the house I did have a quick look at your site and yes you do cover it. A very informative section actually, particularly as I always have been curious about the various seals that came with the filter.

You may wonder why I find this so funny, besides looking like a bit of a fool (my wife totally agreed with that). I am an Aeronautical Mechanical engineer, worked on aircraft all my life, our culture is to follow the manuals explicitedly. When you don't mistakes happen, though nothing happened with this one it will be used to show my trainees that over confidence and failure to use a manual can catch anyone out.

Besides re-educating everyone, I also think its funny and like to pass on humorous stories.
