MG MGA - heater return pipe

I see that the copper pipe runs right close to the rocker cover, with two clips holding it to the "plate with the firing order" bolts. But at the front where it connects to the water pump elbow, is that portion supposed to run vertically? Shown that way in the diagrams, but mine will have to slope.

This is not a great photo but would give some idea

maybe better

The front end of the copper pipe should be pointing directly in line with the spigot connector on the radiator-to-water-pump adapter, so the 1/2-inch rubber connecting hose will be straight. Bob's pictures are good.

Art,
You can bend the copper pipe carefully to make it more vertical. Also mount it so that the front end is directly over the hose from the elbow. The rear rubber hose between the copper pipe and heater box can be adjusted in length to reach the copper pipe end. This latter hose needs to be over length to allow for engine movement.
