MG MGA - How about an 18.3 Litre 12 Cylinder MGA

No, not MGA, but I thought you would like this anyway.

Turn up the volume and listen to the magic sound of the 18.3 litre V12 Sunbeam 350 hp 1924 land speed record holder firing up at Beaulieu National Motor Museum in Hampshire, England on the 29th January 2014. This was the first time that it has been heard by the public in over 50 years.

Hi Steve, Were you there too? Some things just have to be done don't they. I was just out of camera shot (luckily) in this video. Everybody was offered ear plugs but it wasn't that noisy at tick-over. I've attached the view I had of the event.

Pete. No, I was not there. I was sent the link by a colleague. Did they drive the car or just run the engine?

Steve

No they just ran the engine as per the video. Probably boring for some but I thought it pretty special. Apparently it had blown up, throwing a rod and puncturing the crankcase one year at Goodwood. With other landspeed record breakers it was on show at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, so getting the opportunity to hear the beasty couldn't be missed. Pic attached from FoS last year.

Not my car...I took this photo at an MG event about two years ago....Don't have details, but what a car!
I think it was 12 cyl. Jag running gear, but don't remember now.

Brilliant video. That's at Dunsfold where they make the Top Gear program; we were there on that day - a mighty monster of a thing. Don't you just love the owner's hat!
