MG MGA - HT Lead Lengths

I have just purchased some new HT leads for my MGA MKII (1622cc engine) from Moss, but they just sent me one long length that I need to cut into four.

Can anyone tell me the original lengths of the leads?

I think the current leads on the car were replaced with random ones we found around the garage 10 years ago when trying to cure a mis-fire!

It's for the side-exit distributor cap, where the leads are fixed with little screws on the underside.

Thanks in advance!

Howard,

I have just measured four different sets (all within an inch or so) and come up with the following:
Number 1: 13"
Number 2: 9 1/2"
Number 3: 9"
Number 4: 9"
Coil : 10 1/2"

Total length of cable required 51"

Note, in all cases the measurement given is at least 1/2" longer than the shortest wire, so you should not need to add anything to these figures. Of course if you have enough cable you can make them a little longer, but you do not want too much spare cable flopping about!

Also, the four spark plug wires pass through a four way rubber connector close to the cap (Moss# 1G2673)

Hope that helps,

Neil

Excellent, thank you Neil, just what I was looking for!

The lead set was from Moss, so came with the rubber connector and some neat little rubber bands that go on the leads to identify which number it is!

for a moment there I though we were taking concours to a whole new level. Exact length of HT leads!! :-)

Normally Howard most people simply cut to required length by trial fitting in dissy cap to plug, then simply make them of a length that looks tidy.
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

For what it worth, the service parts list has the lengths as:

#1 13"
#2 12.5"
#3 7.5"
#4 9"
Coil A/R

I however agree with Bob, cut as you like for function and looks.
