MG MGA - Is it just my imagination?

Or is this MGA thread the friendliest one?

Nobody seems to mind talking about other models.

I've never owned an 'A'
But worked on several.

Thanks folk's.

Dwight, I check a number of threads on this BBS every day and in general all the posters are freindly and pleasant. I agree that the MGA folks are very nice here on this board, but also the B and midget guys and gals are fun to converse with. There are certainly 'hot' topics for each board which will sometimes generate a heated response, but in general all are helpful and courteous. I continue to recommend the entire MG Enthusiasts Site to anyone I meet that is interested in the marque.

I think the MG owners are the friendliest bunch of the lot. The 'MG wave' is always acknowledged (except by a very few people in MGF's) and I even wave to 'superior' cars like E Types, Healey 3 lites, and the occasional old Bentley - and get a wave back in return. It's part of the joy of driving an MG!!!

I often experience aggressive behavior towards my MG from SUV's and large pickups.

I think this has something to do with the way that elephants behave with mice...

Don't think so Dwight, look at MGA spitting back through the carbs !!
Iain MacKIntosh

Yes but that was only two people arguing and neither
me or bob (once owned a MGB) has an MGA.
Everyone gave their suggestion on that thread and
no-one knew the answer for certain apart from Bob.

Who said I didn't have an MGA? I have an MGA thankyou, not concours but is mine and cost virtually nothing. I think it is Iain and Dwight who do not have MGAs.
Bob (robert) I am coming out!! yes I once owned an MGB!!

Bob
Sorry, my mistake I thought you were a MGB & Midget man!
Robert
R J Collier

Yes I also own a Midget, currently modifying it to a turbo and as my name suggests I used to have an MGB, well quite a number actually. I suppose when all your life has been spent with MGs and A and B series engines you tend to lose count of what vehicles you have and have had. Cause just remembered I run an MG Metro Turbo everyday to work.
I do hope you will be as gracious when Dave finally gets round to finding out why he has a weak mixture.
Bob (robert) I am coming out!! yes I once owned an MGB!!

Bob
I have already said you may well be right about the weak mixture.
What I said was when you service a car, plugs,
points, tappets, timing are checked before setting
the mixture If I am wrong on that I will apologise!
Robert

The A can put a smile on the face of most people, so owning one is like a permanant happy pill.
Neil Purves

No you are not wrong with that assessment that is exactly how you tune an engine but that as I remember was not the question. The question was my car runs well at tickover and seems alright on power but spits from the carbs when on light throttle. No matter what anyone else says this is ALWAYS caused by mixture. The only fly in the ointment is the posters thought that he thought perhaps power was down?
Bob (robert) I am coming out!! yes I once owned an MGB!!

Bob
It seems we both agree. So I would also agree with
Dwight that the MGA thread is very friendly!

Now what gonna happen after I've posted about air filters?

And oil filters?

Are we interested in improvements?
I am!

The post about air filters is another plug for one of the products he sells.... I thought he would at least buy advertising rather than abuse the BBS to get it for free.

I used to visit here every day, until we bought our new(old) house. Now I visit electrical, plumbing etc thread groups.

Only now do I realize how helpful all the MG guys are. You all relish in tracking down and debating the cause of problems. the more mysterious the problem, the better the discussion. With the home repair sites, people are lucky to get 1 or 2 replies. And I'm talking about 10 or 12 different sites.

I've even considered throwing some of the home repair problems by you guys, but don't worry, I won't.

Fred H

I'm with Dominic on this, as well as with one of the other users that asked the webmaster to remove your earlier oil thread.

This BBS is one of the very best of its type in existence.

It is free because the advertisers pay the bills.

I can't imagine the advertisers continuing to pay the operating costs merely to see their money being used for 'shameless plugs' by others with products to sell. If this were to happen it would be a great shame to MG enthusiasts around the world.

If you want to advertise, join the advertisers and buy some space.
