MG MGA - Limited Slip

someone told me that a DANA 27 Limited Slip fits in an MGA. He races with one and it is pretty much bolt on. Studebaker, International and some early Jeeps share this type of part. Any one have any good specs-info on Posi Units? the brand new ones from England are pushing close to 2K.

Moss and others sell these, which are much cheaper.

I have no experience with them, as I have two LSD's made from Australian components.

Hi Mark,
Pretty interesting Web Site Phantom Grip, and only $300 dollars. In theory I guess it works. I really did not want to put a Locker in my race car, and a Posi unit seems to be a better choice. Is it safe to buy a used Posi unit, or is this a poor choice?

I tried the Phatom Grip in my vintage racer and found it was usless for racing purporses. Might work nicely in a street application.

It's just a heavy spring that pushes against the spider gears. In theory, the side-load friction creates a limited slip. Several of the FWD guys I race with use a similar device. I guess it doesn't hurt traction.

A used LSD, if it's the clutch type, can be serviced. Ford LSDs have a stack of alternating friction and clutch discs for each axle with an S-shaped spring in the middle. These discs can be assembled in any combination to increase or decrease locking effect.

I've got a clutch type lsd for an MGA for sale I've had in my garage for about 35 years. It's (was) a fresh rebuild. Great condition! Email for photos & questions.

I have a locker differential (no gears) that to my knowledge was never used for an MGA. It was in a Coupe that a guy gave me that he was going to make into a racer. It weighs about 28 lbs so shipping wont be cheap if anyone is interested. Have a good day!

Still expensive though.
