MG MGA - Lubing the distributor cam
OK, when you don't have one of the little packets of grease/lube that comes with some new point sets, what is a reliable "household" or garage alternative. I don't want to use something that will gum up the points and cap contacts. Is vaseline OK? - Ken

Hi Ken. A very light thin smear of lubriplate white grease will do in a pinch. You could also use a very thin smear of synthetic grease. Cheers, Glenn

Glenn - is "lubriplate white grease" the same thing as white lithium grease?
Ken Doris
Without purchasing a tube of Bosch distributor grease, I'd use a bit of Mobil1 synthetic grease. It won't hold up as long, but its functional. You need to use something pretty sticky, or it'll melt away with use.

vaseline will work fine

Don't forget a drop of oil down the shaft under the rotor.... to oil the weights Very important !!!

Hi Ken. Yes, they are essentially the same.
