MG MGA - Making seat upholstery - Part 1.

See this link.

I have started the job of making my own seats - and it really is (so far) a job you can DIY if you have a sewing machine. So far it's going pretty well, though I haven't got a finished seat yet to show for it. Maybe I've already made a mess of it and just don't know it - but I am hoping that there won't be any major uh-oh's.

The material that I bought is really terrific, and the pattern here is not all that tough to copy. Making the piping was kind of cool...but you need an edging foot for your machine. You also need to use a needle for "jeans" or a No. 14 ballpoint will work. The thread is upholstery thread and a pretty good color match.

I'll post an update again when I have one all put together.

The first time the link appeared to be broken...try again.

If it still doesn't work, try cutting and pasting into a browser. Someone let me know if this works...?

Jim,
It didn't work for me, but brought me to the Photobucket main page.

$%^&**((

This BBS seems to historically have had a problem with photobucket links...?

Any advice from someone who's made it work?

Try this

That looks like a real nice start

Nope still no luck, although cut and paste works.

Copy and past the URL into your browser and it works. Apparently something in the way this mgcars.org server works will screw it up before it gets to the photobucket site.

OK - trying Picasa instead.

Wow - making seats from scratch - well done for taking it on - and it's looking good so far - hope they fit!

New pics up - test fitted the first seat bottom and it's pretty good, though there is room for improvement. More write up later on. Here is a pic of the cover test fitted and with a seat belt mount painted body color to show the scheme...
