MG MGA - MG Live

I will be there (as usual for the last 40 years)

I know Bob will be in the Beer Tent at some point but is anyone else going this year?

Regards...John

Just checked the weather forecast, Saturday not to bad, Sunday is anybody's guess!

Despite the weather (which was OK) and the mud, I had a great weekend... both days.

Well done MGCC / Kimber House.

YouTube film of the MGA & Twin Cam parking section to follow.

Not many MGA's in the register parking area this year, not sure if that's down to the space we are allocated or just a reflection of how many people turned upthis year.

Some good quality racing made it worthwhile.

I thought the event was very poor. Whilst the weather certainly did not help one would have thought that the organisers and MGCC would have had a plan B in mind.

The Register parking was a joke and anyone arriving after 10.00 am on the Saturday had to park elsewhere. Surely one of the great things about MG Silverstone is that owners can park up with fellow register members and have a chat - this seemed to have escaped the thoughts of the organisers.

I was fortunate as I was on a Register Stand on both days and could retire to a dry environment. Not so those in other tents on grass.

I was very disappointed with the 'Garage' in the main tent. Certainly there were some interesting vehicles but only Rob King with his splendidly restored YA chassis was available to talk about his car. As far as I was aware there was no one around to discuss the midget and the Cooper and sadly no interpretative panels. The garage could have been an eye catching exhibit but sadly fell well short of the mark.

I felt really sorry for the traders on the grass and they really all should be on the tarmac. Many who were there on the Saturday were gone by that evening.

The concours and pride of ownership classes were well undersubscribed which is a real shame as the few cars present promoted a great deal of interest from interested spectators.

I didnt see the racing but from what I picked up was that by using the F1 track it was in some instances a procession rather than a race. Also the presence of several other makes does question who the races are for - MG's?

I feel that MG Silverstone needs a review and some research to find out exactly what the membership needs.

Finally I thought the helpers did a fantastic job and were very understanding and well mannered. Hats of to them.

Was it worth 25 ( and a fiver for a programme )? Not in my view but others will have a different take on the weekend no doubt!

Sincerely

Jerry

I tend to agree with Jerry I arrived on Saturday and there was a bad Jam to get to the Register Car Park in the eventuality we were turned round an moved to the camp site Parking . The Traders seemed fewer than other years and it was muddy walking round the stands some of the Traders were complauning of the conditions The Racing was not bad but perhaps better on the club circuit? I am sure a lot of effort went into this weekend by the MGCC and perhaps it needs a rethink. I suspect hiring Silverstone is an enormous expense and perhaps another circuit might be considered. A bit of a dissapointment after recent years The weather prior to the event must have caused some of the problems

Not sure I can sympathise with some of the criticism of the organisers here.

I have been attending Silverstone for almost 30 years + and have never known rain during the previous month or so as we have had this year.

Silverstone is notorious for becoming water logged at the first sight of rain and I expected this year that it would probably be cancelled the forcast was so poor.

However the organisers did such a fantastic job to have the event take place let alone please everyone.

Of course we could all have made better decisions?? I would have given the hard standing to the traders rather than give area to unthankfull register members!

Without doubt Silverstone needs a lot of work to come up with a program to keep it going for the next few decades and I know the club are considering different formats. If there are members who believe they know best I am sure they will be heard.

So this years criticisms are totally unjustified (remember a few years ago when the rain almost washed out the GP and everyone who parked on the grass got bogged down?) they tried extremely hard to put on the event and I think they should be congratulated for what they achieved, however please put your efforts into suggesting improvement to future years events.

IMO.
