MG MGA - MG Midget Wiper Arms

Recently I remember reading a post in which someone had found that a midget wiper arm will fit the MGA and put more pressure on the wiper blade, making the wiper more effective. Moss shows several Midget wiper arms; 164-610, 164-615, and 164-625. Which one is the arm that will fit the MGA?

Frank, I believe that the arm you need would be from the early Bugeyes and MK1 Midgets with two wipers. The three wiper arms are very short. The Moss part number I saw was 165-005. The splines should be the same, length close on the two wiper Midget arms.

I ordered a set of MGA wiper arms from a reliable supplier. When I recieved them, they were in a package that said "MG Midget". Upon trying them on the MGA, I found that they were shorter than the old ones, and they would not push all the way onto the pivot splines. I would have had to buy shorter wiper blades, as the old ones would have lapped over the bottom windshield frame. And, I did not relish the thought of one of them popping off as I was going down the road in a rain storm. After several phone calls to the supplier, I was able to convince them that they did not fit, and was able to return them and get my money back. If anyone knows where to get wiper arms that are actually made to fit the MGA, please let us know!!

I'd suggest you stay well clear of Moss wiper arms. The one I bought was defective crap.
Moss said they were goint to start supplying different ones, but to my knowledge they have not.

I've been looking unsuccesfully for wiper arms to fit a coupe windscreen that is deeper than a roadster. The roadster arm appears too short. At present I've got wiper arms that are adjustable, they look neat but employ the bending of a steel strip for tension that in the end means that the wiper just floats around at high speed. I have not managed to locate a arm using a coil spring thats suitable for a coupe so I'm wondering if I could make one up if I can obtain the chrome rivets. Moss don't differentiate between the roadster and coupe as far as wipers are concerned.

Frank,
The wiper arms I ordered from Scarborough Faire 2 yrs. ago worked perfectly. (part# n245) They were Wipac (really made in England, not Asia!) and of good quality. I believe the package described them as fitting Midget /Sprite for the early two arm wipers. -M.S.
