MG MGA - MGA Anti-Roll Bars

I have a 1500 coupe with a 1950cc engine and would like to fit an anti-roll bar. The car has the old style subframe, so I tried a kit sold for this model (MGB bar and shorter links) but the links fouled the steering arms.
I now have a later subframe with AR bar provision, but would like to fit a threequarter inch bar rather than the standard item. Is this possible? And if so, any ideas how I can source/make bushes for it? Or any alternative suggestions?

Martin I put a big bar on my car mounted under the frame extension. As you say the links can foul on things. It took me a long time to get the bar mounted in a position and the links shortened by cutting and welding so as not to catch anything at full movement and full turns.

Martyn, You might find it worthwhile 'phoning Brown & Gammons for a thicker bar kit. About a year ago I was looking for a standard ARB (9/16"?)that I eventually got from Simon Robinson but B&G wanted to sell me a thicker bar which they had in stock at the time. Mike

Addco in the USA make an anti-roll bar of 3/4" diameter that fits on the earlier 1500cc subframe and doesn't require drop links to be installed. It works well with the standard suspension and is easy to fit.

There seems to be different shapes of anti-roll bars for the MGB. Someone more knowledgeable than me on MGBs can probably explain the difference better than I can. The type that is heavily cranked at the ends I found virtually impossible to fit on my MGA using the early 1500cc subframe. The anti-roll bars that are not cranked at the ends seem to fit, but still on full lock with shortened drop arms it is still difficult in my experience to obtain clearance with the steering arms at all suspension angles.

Don't get tempted to mount the bar underneath, the angles are all wrong and it won't work as well.

Martyn, take a look at this - it addresses your question. I will be fitting a 3/4" bar to my Jamaican MGA (based on a 1957 with the wrong extension for a stock bar) in the same way.

Many thanks for all your comments guys. Gratifying to know that my problems with the MGB based kit were not just my incompetence. Will think twice about using that supplier again!
I have now acquired a secondhand Addco kit which I'm looking forward to fitting.

Yes as I said to begin with it is a simple matter of cutting and welding the links shorter. I did mine exactly as the photos shown by Bill.
