MG MGA - MGA Replica In Kevlar

I posted this at http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=thread&access=&subject=36&source=T&thread=200604280453527985

in the MGB engine swap section - an MGA with MGA lightweight body and Toyota engine - Barney now has it up at his site.

Yup. For those who think it might be nice to knock 500 pounds off your MGA without giving up any creature comforts, and maybe double the power as well, check out this MGA variant: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/variants/vt106h.htm

I remember reading about this and other MGA kit cars back in the early 90's, but as they were all significantly more expensive than the real thing, I find it hard to believe that there was much of a market for them. Hey, people are even sniffy about having fibreglass wings/fenders,so what would the attitude be to an entirely plastic car?
dominic clancy

You are right Dominic - can't see the point really in the plastic body - unless you want to race in something that looks like an original MGA but isn't - a bit like the British Touring Cars. Mind you the Naylor TF copy seems to have a few customers and costs more than an original and there are also a few kit car copies of E types around - but they are significantly cheaper than the real thing. Cheers Cam.

Following the links, it apears that there never was an MGA kit. It was a one-off. Never came into production. Now, after many years past, they are proposing (not producing) a new Elva. One only can assume that this too will not become reality.

see:
http://www.newelva.com/elva_project/elva_project.html
for the curent status.

The glass bodied MGA would be a good fit for a kit-car builder rather that an MGA restorer. I could very easily see how it could fit into

I for one, would like to see a glass-bodied coupe kit available. Maybe I'd even have one and use it as a daily driver. It would survive the Illinois salted winter roads and I wouldn't worry about destroying my REAL MGA.

If it was the right price, Maybe I'd have to put my Locost projet on hold for a while;>)
