MG MGA - MGA Video

The other night I ran across an old video I whipped up a couple years ago as a test for a new camera. Since it just happens to feature an MG I thought I'd share. It's a huge (46.1mb) download so hopefully you have broadband. Enjoy!

PS... not exactly oscar-winning stuff but it was only a test video!

Nice job! Thanks for sharing this video. What could be more exciting than taking a great car for a ride in the beautiful country side.
N. Wessely

Steve,

A long download, but a very good video of an MGA. When run from my hard disk it is very smooth, no streaming problems. There just seem to be one hesitation at about 4.03 minutes.
I am amazed at how similar the country is to Australia. You would not know that is in the US except that the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car! This causes you to drive on the wrong side of the road.
Even the windmill makes it look like Australia.
A good effort.

Except for the barn with the huge American flag painted on it! (it's at 3:26, hard to spot in reduced quality) I think they sold US cars cheaper because of the driver's side defect. Those Americans will buy anything! ;)

Thanks for the compliments and I'm glad you enjoyed it. One of these days I plan to make a real video in High Definition, but the thought of the editing portion is giving me a queazy stomach. :/
Steve Simmons

Hello Steve,

I enjoyed the nice video with the song Route 66.
We made a link on our Clubsite for this song with text in Dutch (translating: Click on the picture for a fantastic drive in a MGA)The site can be found http://www.mgato.nl/fotopagina.htm
Best regard and safety fast

Hey Steve,

Nice video. Just finished looking at it for the second time. Not bad for a test video. Are you still signed up for GoFWest 2005??? Looking forward to meeting you there.

Cheers - Dennis

Steve,

Even more enjoyable to watch because I have an OEW with steel wheels. I got a chuckle as the driver pulled back on the choke cable (demonstrating all fidgity ideosyncracies of the car) even though the car was thoroughy warmed up. It ensures certain ignition :)
Art DiLello

Oh no!!! LOL!!! Art, you're the first to figure me out, and now it's obvious I'm as fake as Hollywood. I told her to pull the choke to add to the effect. Notice how she only puls it 1/4 of the way so the mixture won't actually change. I can't believe I didn't think of the temperature gauge sitting right there in plain view! LOL! There's another Hollywood fakeout there but you'll never spot it. You hear me? Never! :p

Jan, the video won't be up forever since I can't afford the bandwidth it would take to host it. But it should be there for another month or so. If I find a new home on the web to keep it I will do so.

Dennis, we're still planning to go to GoF! Hopefully we can get the TC done in time. There is a job that came up which may prevent me from attending the last day or two but I'm working on that. Hope to see you there!
Steve Simmons

Not sure if its the fake-out but there is a continuity issue--at first, the shifter knob is spot on. Later, its rotated 90 degrees. Did I get it?
Paul Hanley

Darnit! You guys are killing me! Yes, the shift knob came loose half way into the drive. It bugs me to no end but since I don't plan on airing this footage to international television I think I'll try to forget it!

Believe it or not (believe it!) there are other issues and tricks in the video but I doubt any more of them will be so obvious. :)

PS... the shift knob isn't actually the one I was referring to in the previous post. :p
Steve Simmons

Steve, great video, I'm going into hospital for 10 days or so and my daughter is lending me her DVD player, so I am looking for interesting videos.
Your's fits the bill perfectly.
Thank you.
Joe.
MGA Joe

I sense a real "spot the discontinuities" etc coming on here....

And Steve is a professional cameraman too!

Steve, Your car looks great and inspires me because mine should look like it when finished (OEW, with the hubcaps). Thanks for the good example.

Harley

great video Steve, Those roads looked alot like the ones around Ojai and Santa Paula. I used to love to drive them in my B when I lived in Ventura many years ago! Love the exhaust at start up!

Ken

Steve,
Great video. I didn't look for flaws, but enjoyed the ride. :)
mike parker

Thanks all. Joe, nothing serious I hope! Best wishes for a speedy recovery from whatever it is you're having done to yourself!

Harley, I'd love to take credit for the way the car looks but two owners preceding me is the one who did the work. I only converted to wire wheels and installed a few accessories.

Ken, those areas are very close (within 50 miles) of where the video was shot. Good eye!

Dominic, don't encourage them! LOL! ;)
Steve Simmons

Great video Steve. Those roads look like they'd be a really nice drive.
Andy Bounsall

Great video Steve. I saved the file and enjoy showing it to people at work. Good job!
Jerry
Jerry Murphy

Very well done Steve. It's the closest I've been to riding in an MGA since I started my restoration many (too many) years ago! It actually renewed my enthusiasm for working on the car, thanks!
George Goeppner

Steve,

Fabulous work. This is first rate in all respects. Thanks for sharing it with us.

However, this will cost me. I'm in the process of returning to California, have my house up for sale in Pittsburgh. This made me want to be there like...NOW....

I'll probably discount the house beyond what I should. ;) (sigh)

Tom
Tom balutis

Don't discount it too much. The prices here are soaring these days!
Steve Simmons

I can't make the clip come up in English or German. I get:

error 500: Interner Serverfehler
Das angegebene Skript konnte nicht fehlerfrei ausgeführt werden!

That's something like: error 500: Internal server error the indicated script could not be implemented error free!

Is it just not available any longer?

Chuck Asbury

The video was downloaded so much that the account has been locked by my ISP! I never expected that kind of response or I would have put it somewhere else for download. Right now I'm not sure what to do but if you have ICQ, send me your number and I can do a file transfer.

In other news, why the heck is the error message in German?!?!?
Steve Simmons

I think that Chuck tried to access it through J.M. Bierling's site.
mike parker

Click the link at the top of this page. It's in German!
Steve Simmons

Steve,
I didn't know that you were bilingual!?!
mike parker

Neither did I! LOL!
Steve Simmons

Is it possible to down load the video from an other site ?
I can´t find J.M. Bierling's site.

P-O Lindroos

The alternative site of J. M. Bierling is given in his post earlier. The site works and the link is there, but you get the same error message (in German!!).

Mick
Mick Anderson

The link on his site simply linked to my site. Well, not my site but my extra storage space. I'll try to get it back on the web somewhere and provide a new link.
Steve Simmons

Interested in see this as well... thanks!
Rich

Ok, the video has been moved here:
