MG MGA - MGAs @ Silverstone

Hello everybody,

Just wondering who is all going to Silverstone next week. As of the 50th anniversary of the MGA there should be quite a turn up.

I'll go accross on friday and drive down to Silverstone saturday morning.

Take them back to Britain!

I am going over on Friday morning (early) via Eurotunnel so will see you there. Look for a white 1600 with boot rack (including case on Friday).

Hope to see a few MG's on the way over as I have in the past (5th time to Silverstone).

We should have BBS T-Shirt for the regular on line community (Koen, Dominic etc.)?

Hi

I've just been asked if I could put my Coupe in the main display marquee, what an honour! See you all there.

Terry - Chariot red coupe 225 JRL
Terry Drinkwater

John see you in the beer tent Friday afternoon if you would like to pop in.
Iris Blue EAS 854. Not good enough for the main marque but genuine British car that was a total pile of scrap and all rebuilt be my own fair hand. With very few new parts!
Bob (robert)

Terry

They are putting you in the marquee so you don't do any damage to other MGAs in the main car park!!

Steve

PS. Good on you. It is a very nice rebuild to concourse standards - other than the odd dint in the bumper.

Steve Gyles

Odd: I added my name & car last evening and it disappeared.

Maroon 1500 coupe HHG 877 on Saturday, if the oil filter goes back on...

Shane

Hi Steve, thought you disappeared! Still doing the rounds with the old bumper joke! I seem to have forgotten it, could you remind everybody once again, then again, you'll probably mention it frequently !

Terry

P S there doesn't seem to be a dent in my bumper
Terry Drinkwater

Terry if Steve is really hacking you off then you could fight back by suggesting he ought to spell concours correctly. Without consulting the dictionary, I think concourse is some sort of walk way between areas?
Bob (robert)

Bob

I'll look out for you on Friday as I believe I still owe you a beer for the diary.

At least your car doesn't suffer with this bumper problem

Regards...John Bray
J Bray

Good call Bob. Unlike Terry, I did not have the skill to rebuild to such a high standard so I never learnt to spell concours proper like. Hope I did not hack you off too much Terry, just my sense of humour. Your turn for the beers at Siverstone.

an expanded view on mirror position ? or convex thoughts ? a great response , i have taken the route of ,dominic,ie on the top of the door , works well while not spoiling the lines of the A & hoping to avoid the dreaded dent in the bumper .we will be driving up on friday am early ,chariot red YAS 817 & camping in general field see you their
colin daly

Quite John if Steve wants to get intimate with the rear of my car then he is welcome, I think my high grade stainless BAR will sort him out.
Bob (robert)

Hi Steve

All taken in good fun! I'm fairly thick skinned (some say just thick) Do you know the price of beer at Silverstone! I think they're getting the prices mixed up with the champagne they sold at the Grand Prix!
I might even find a new bumper in the autojumble

Does anybody want a weekend ticket ( 3 days ) at a reduced price of £20, I've got a spare

Terry

Hi I'll be there on Sunday: GSK221 red Roadster 1500

Didn't know anything about that....

Is it just MGA's ?

Mark Hester

Hummm....

"Me thinks" I missed the boat !!!

https://securemg.ipl.co.uk/cars/mgcc1.html

I was going to enter the race meeting until I found out it was going to cost £1000 +,,,, so a five-er would have been great value...

Oh well...
Mark Hester

I will be there for the parade laps on Sunday, arriving Saturday .... MGA 1600 MkII, two-tone paint job, 481 DBC.

See you all there.

Richard.
Richard Ross

Hi Mark

I've got a ticket for the parade lap, as my coupe is in the main display I can't use it. Now, if Iwas a passenger in somebody else's car we may be able to use it, let me know if you are agreeable. We'll have to notify yhe organisers about the changes

Terry
Terry Drinkwater

Terry,

It might be a step down from your concourse car to my doggie old twin cam.
But yes please and no problems taking a passenger as I'll be all alone that day as my wife hates car events.

That's me on the left.

I will also be on the parade lap before returning to Belgium. May therefor be carrying some luggage on the rear rack!! Maybe a new catagory of touring car event there?!!

My lap says 10.00am but I am not sure if more time slots are available.

Look out for the white 1600 BHX 135, it is looking tired due to daily use this past year and will soon be ready for re-restoration (already done once 12 years ago!!). I already have a passenger who is hopefully going to take a lot of photos.

Give me a call +41796877079 (mobile), I'll save your number in my Handy now. Still waiting for a face :(

RAIN...
Mark Hester

Looks like Saturday may well be better than Sunday

http://uk.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/UKXX1916?begHour=22&begDay=203
dominic clancy

Well! What a day that was! We left Hampshire in pouring rain to arrive at Silvestone in the dry (just). After FOUR wonderful parade laps the heavens opened for the next five hours. We watched the qualifying races from the comparitive dry of a grandstand. It looked more like powerboating at times. Then the Clerk of the Course declared it unfit for racing! I don't blame him. Racing did resume later though.
Four laps of Silverstone on a day rain made the circuit infit - Thats a good story for the pub! It was a pity for all the car displays and traders. They put in so much work and there were crowds of people there all huddled under umbrellas.
It was good to speak to some Swiss, French, Dutch and USA MGA owners. Hope to see you all again next year.

See a couple of pics on http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/wmgoc/MGCCsilverstone2005/index.html

Thanks to all I meet or caught up with again on Sunday.
Thanks again to Terry of letting me go around on the parade lap.
Koen, looked for you all day, but never saw you again.

I have about 26Mb of pics and 15 Mb of video of the MGA race (not great quality though)

If you would like some of it, I can send it on 5mb chunks, just send me your email address.

Despite the weather I still had a great time.

Cheers <MARK>

Despite the weather, I had a great weekend, and it was very good to meet Dominic, Shane, Dene, Derek, and lots of others. Thanks for making it a very memorable occasion.

How lucky we were to get round the Parade Laps when we did ... an hour later and it would have been miserable. As it was, it may not have been the most exhilarating drive, but it's not likely to be repeated - I was fairly near the front, and there were so many cars that I could see the front safety car was only yards behind the end safety car - a complete lap of MGAs! Impressive. I would love to see some pictures of what it looked like from track side.

The only advantage of the rain was the possibility of some very keen prices from the traders! By lunchtime, they seemed keen for any trade at all. It can't have been much fun for them.

Saturday, by contrast, was beautiful, with plenty of good sunshine, and the MGA Register car park was a sight to behold. By mid-afternoon I counted 146 MGAs ... not including the display cars inside the main tent and elsewhere.

This was my first visit to Silverstone ... what an introduction!
Richard Ross

I've just posted some photos from Silverstone:

Feel free to have a look.

Richard.

Glad I went on Saturday, although sad to miss the parade laps. Pity to miss some of the trader deals on Sunday, too.

Good to meet some familiar names from the BB. Hope you all made it back in good shape.

Shane

Richard,

I notice your using Yahoo photo's.
I have a yahoo account with my Twin Cam yahoo group membership...
How much space do they give you, as I might try and do the same.

Cheers <MARK>

Spent the whole of Saturday at Silverstone, and Sunday visiting friends and old neighbours nearby. It seems that Saturday was a great day (Sunny and warm) whereas Sunday was horrid. The turnout of MGAs was tremendous, and the ones in the tent were amazing just a pity all the bonnets were closed, and none of the historic engineering below the skin was visible. The truck in the compound was a really great idea.

It was great to meet some folks from the board, (the Swiss T shirt did the trick there) and David will hopefully be showing up in the next couple of weeks to stay for a few days. I am very conscious that next time it's my round.

There was a strong Swiss contingent there - there were 9 of us on the plane back on Sunday night. I spent too much money, but got some very nice bits, and can now plan some interesting further mods......

Figured it out !!!

Mark,

Just back in ... Glad you worked it out ...
I particularly like the MGA race picture ... a bit less sedate than the Parade laps!

Richard.

Richard Ross

Yea,
Shame it was so dark... I should have taken more too... but too wet...
Koen is going to post some soon also.
