MG MGA - Numbers matching MGA ? NOT!

Found this on E-Bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1962-MGA-MK-11-Roadster_W0QQitemZ4614009131QQcategoryZ80750QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
My information says the engine # listed in this add came from an Austin of some sort and was a 1500cc engine. I have ask the seller for more info.
A question for all the experts. What is the engine and where did it come from?

Shouldn't a MkII have a 1622 engine?
dominic clancy

Yeah, if he doesn't believe you have him look at the # cast by the motor mount.
Mark

Comes with a nice Triumph TR4/Spitfire jack.
wc wolcott

and MGB-style carbs.

I will put my money on a misprint by the seller in the advertisement; misprint when a new engine plate was made; or the letters becoming almost illegible after all these years. 15AAUH is not a lot different than 16GAUH allowing for wear and tear.

Did they make a 1500 high compression motor? I thought it was only in the mk2.

Yes, I've got these two in a 58 and 59:

15GB-U-H-1686
15GB-U-H-26662

Steve. There is still a problem. The Mark II used a 16GC engine, not a 16GA. I e-mailed the seller about this and he has not responded.

Ooops. My error.

I was browsing Neil Cairns engine website info at http://www.magnette.org/technic/codeseng.pdf

I spotted the refernce to the 16GA which refers to the MGA. Later on in the same document he also refers to the 16GC.

Oh yea,

Body number's abit out of sequence, but that sometimes happened, as they were ordered in batches. This info's on the web somewhere also.

Definatly ask for a photo of the engine number plate, as there's not such thing as 15AA.
