MG MGA - O/D TRANS MOUNT?

Hello, well I am now ready to start on the trans part of the fun.I am planing on using a 4 sync O/D B trans with my B engine.I need to fab a trans mount. I would like to make it reversable, so has anybody designed one or has anybody have one for sale.Hoping to make a bolt in as opposed to a weld in type.I am thinking of fabing something out of a MGB trans crossmember.Any ideas or suggestions, plans? I am also using MGB F/R suspension. As mentioned in an earlier post,I use mechanics tools out of necessity,...not my forte.

I put one of these trannies in a 59 A over 25 years ago. If I remember correctley the tranny will contact the round crossmember under its front before the tail end is low enough to accept the driveshaft. Therefore said crossmember will have to be modified. Also the MGA trans tunnel and the frame rails that it and the floorboards sit on are too narrow to fit around the tranny. I resolved this by cutting out the frame rails and welding in rails that provided enough width, then, using a tranny mount from an MGB, fabricated a mount to bolt into the new frame rails. With the engine and tranny in place I made new tunnel to fit over the tranny. It was important to note that the newley fabricated tunnel and frame rails only extended rearward to just in front of the hand brake lever. Trim up the floor boards to fit and your set.

I have heard you can bang out the MGA tunnel to fit but it must be very tight and you still have to deal with the crossmember and mount. My advise is to put in a five speed.

The five speed will just drop in. No cutting. you only have to drill 5 holes, 4 of them into the C seat channel and the last one into the tunnel for the speedo cable. The trans will slip in or slip out to put the original back in.

You can fabricate a mount that bolts to the original frame mount on the MGA and to the original mount location on the OD trans case.

It slightly elevates the rear of the trans, but still within correct operational angles for the U joints. You also need to relieve the tunnel (ie beat with a hammer until it clears).
