MG MGA - Owne's Age...The Answer

OK, using 134 data points from both this thread and the 2003 thread the average age of an MGA owner is 52.
However, for those of you familiar with statistics, you know the answer is never that simple. For those of you who care I present the following:
Average = 52.0896
Standard deviation = 9.85265
Minimum = 26.0
Maximum = 72.0
Range = 46.0
Median = 54
Mode = 56
Because the distribution turned out to be a skewed normal, the Mode, or most frequently occurring number is certainly of interest. As is the frequency of owner ages in the distribution. It breaks out as follows:
25 to 30 = 1.5%
30 to 35 = 7.5%
35 to 40 = 6%
40 to 45 = 6%
45 to 50 = 15.5%
50 to 55 = 20%
55 to 60 = 27%
60 to 65 = 10.5%
65 to 70 = 5%
Over 70 less than 1%

Notice that the age group 45 to 65 contains 73% of MGA owners. However, there is an interesting little "bubble" in the 30 to 35 group.

Countries reporting in included:
Total AvgAge Min Max
USA 96 52.5 26 70
UK 14 51.14 34 70
Canada 13 57.5 50 72
Australia 6 45.3 34 59
Netherlands 2 42 56
Belgium 1 36
Japan 1 34
Portugal 1 46

So, it looks like the "youngsters" are in Australia and the "seniors" are in Canada!

Not surprisingly the US had the most reponses. With 30 states represented. For those states with five or more data points I computed the following:
Avg Min Max
California 55.5 42 68
New York 56.1 44 65
Illinois 51.1 26 60
Michigan 51.8 47 58
Pennsylvania 57 52 60

Well, there you have it. I make no assertion that this is in anyway scientific. To be used for amusement purposes (and bragging rights) only.

Ah well, try as I might I see the formatting of the tables did not hold when I submitted it. It looked good in the entry box. Hopefully you can understand it. Such is life....

Confirms what I knew all along but I've been in denial over. I'm at the older end of the spectrum and probably over the hill - better start looking to trade the MGA for a good used electric wheelchair.

Dan,
You can get that used electric wheelchair, but I'll bet within a week you begin to wonder if you can upgrade the upholstery to leather. Then you'll dig into the electrical system. Perhaps add on front disc brakes... and wire wheels. Then you will want to re-chrome some bits and paint the rest Orient Red. Better just keep the MGA. We know it will be a chick magnet at the retirement home.

I think Glenn (Canada) has been telling us porkies and he is older than he has been letting on!

Frank,

You've convinced me I'll keep it - the idea of pulling chicks at the retirement home is the decider.

Steve,
Be careful with Glenn, you could inspire (or should it be incite) another poem. BTW, I don't think that North Americans know about porkies - let's see.

When you guys are in the retirement home, make sure you have someone lined up to drive your MGA regularly.... like me. ;)

GTF,
The internet has an average age as well for those using it. There is published data on this you can find by searching for- Average age of internet users. This average age seems to be around 30+ with one study saying up to the average age of closing in on 40 years old.

If you want to speculate further, you could say that there are more "young" people utlizing the "MG" internet to find information and chime in since they did not grow up with these and need more help then those who have grown up with these and know a bit more. If this is true, the actual world wide average age for Classic MG (or at least MGA) owners could be around 10 years older then figured here.

Keep up with the figures. This is very interesting.
