MG MGA - pictures of '57 coupe parcel shelf
Hi Now that I have the MGA coupe '57 running, I want to restore the inside carpeting and in particular the parcel shelf. Our coupe has the protruding pare wheel and the deeper shelf. From the Original mga book it seems as if the headliner material is used even under the rear window above the shelf. Correct? In my car the metal structure supporting the shelf is completely missing. Does someone have a couple of drawings, pictures showing how it looks like and how it is bolted onto the body shell? The shelf itself is probably thin plywood? I also would like a couple of pictures of the post behind the door. There is a small piece of wood wrapped in leather cloth. Where does the headliner stop? Can someone make a couple of pictures and upload them to this thread? Thanks. -- Paul |

I have had 2 1958 1500 coupes but a long while ago so 'unrestored'. I am pretty sure the headliner came down to the shelf including under the rear screen. At the sides I believe it came down to the covered trim. Until recently I had a shelf somewhere in the garage but I can't find it at moment. I do sometimes have a clear out and might have thought I would never need a rear coupe shelf, now having a roadster, and they are a bit awkward to keep. There again I have currently a lot of stuff in the garage for my daughters who are both in process of moving hence if it turn up I will get back to you. Paul |
