MG MGA - Radio Suppression
My radio used to have very minor interference on FM channels (slight ticking) but crystal clear on AM. I have just fitted an alternator and the situation has reversed. FM channels are absolutely perfect but I have massive interference on AM. I had a 1uF 'thingy' on the generator. Should I transfer this to the alternator? If so which terminal should the cable be attched to? I have suppression on the plugs etc. Steve |

Hi Steve I think your problem is the rear bumper, check it for dents etc !! Your thingy is a suppressor, measured in microfarads ( not sure about the spelling ) connect it to the large terminal on the alternator (+ve). Is your interference ticking or a whiring noise? Ticking is HT, the other is alternator, have you a suppressor on the coil? Check that your aerial has a good contact with the bodywork, is it a good quality aerial. I get absolutly no interference, then again I haven't got a radio fitted !! See you at Silverstone Terry |

Nice one Terry. Knocking the dent out cured it! However, I will bolt the thingy to the alternator as instructed - as a backup. It was a whirring noise. At least with a loud radio I won't hear the impacts! All the best Steve |

Okay, this is a joke, right? You two are just having fun trying to see how many of us will actually believe this. Good one... had me going there for a minute. <:) |

My radio is fully supressed by transmission noise, that beautiful 45DCOE and an exhaust note to die for. Dont know how many Microfarads they add up to but they certainly work well. |

Bobby My question was genuine and Terry's response was genuine, plus a bit of banter from when we came together (very very lightly - just touched) while at Le Mans! Steve |
