MG MGA - Redex

Redex is the UKs number one fuel additive and they say they have been helping people to keep driving since 1922.

In Classic & Sports Cars July 2015 magazine Alain De Cadennet mentioned he uses mentioned using Redex regularly. To quote Alain He (Willie Griffiths) even wrote a book about tuning carbs that included the importance of tipping in Redex to clean them out. I still do that.

That got me wondering if MGA in the UK have tried this?

And, I am wonder if Lucas Upper Cylinder lubricant would do the same thing. I know for a fact it worked wonders on my 1997 Ford F-150 truck. It has been around for years. To quote their site Lucas Fuel Treatment is formulated for both gasoline and diesel engines, carbureted or fuel injected. It gives your fuel system what it really needs - a blend of super slick oils and additives with a high detergent action that allows the engine to operate at maximum efficiency. Also, it cleans and lubricates the carburetor and injectors and causes the fuel to burn more thoroughly for increased power and less fuel consumption. Lucas Fuel Treatment should definitely be used in vehicles that require leaded fuel because it actually replaces the benefits of lead in gasoline without causing harmful emissions. Use it to pass smog tests. Finally, it totally neutralizes the harmful effects of low sulfur diesel fuel.

In years gone by when leaded petrol was available and garage petrol pump stands had an attendant it was perhaps the norm to ask for so many gallons and the equivelent Redex shots of upper cylinder lubricant dospensed from a conical oil dispenser. I used to have a Redex vacuum gauge fitted to my Austin A40 Farina.

I must have been half asleep when I wrote my original post; here’s a cleaned up version. :)
