MG MGA - Rotor: existing vs Moss replacement?

The existing rotor snaps right into place and fits great. The brand-friggin-new rotor did not slide in to place... WITHOUT BREAKING!!! Is there a better place to get these distributor parts?

I bought my rotor for my MGB at Advance Auto Parts on Morganford at Holly Hills, they had to order but it only took 24 hours to come in, try your local Advance. If they don't have MGA listed see if the MGB rotor is the same and order that.

If not sure email me an address and I'll drop you an old rotor in the mail so you can compare. mike@mghorizon.com

Advance and Autozone still carry a surprising amount of parts for our cars.

Gerald,
I would say try a diffetent catalog, but I think they all get those parts from the same place. I would keep you eyes out for an auto jumble where you can buy a new old stock one. If you can't wait, try ordereing one from Victoria British. They are closer to you than Moss. I bought one from Moss 15+ years ago and it has been on there so long, I can't get it off!! you may have just got a bad one. It happens.

Good Luck

No, they all dont get them from the same place. Intermotor and other off brand ignition stuff is crap. You need to make sure you get real Lucas stuff. The best place Ive found is Motorhead (800 527 3140)and you dont have to wait for them to get it in because its always in stock. Havent let me down yet.

Gerard--
You've been Mossed.
You might also try NAPA for an MGB rotor.

I would contact Moss ASAP and explain the problem. Maybe give Craig Cody a call (his contact info is in the archives somewhere). Not only should you get a proper replacement but it should alert Moss to a potential defective supplier problem.

I also try and get things like this logged on Barney's site.

Moss seem to be coming out with allot of defective products lately. I've had huge problems with Crank shaft Key's which snap the cogs, Wooden header rail that came from Brown and Gammons.
Lately the Moss replacement Grille also... the list keeps growing.

We all have our complaints about Moss but, we should also remember that without a place like Moss, it would be next to impossible, if not that, to keep these cars. Since it is a business, they look for the best profit margin and most times that results in a shabby product. Just remember that there are other suppliers out there.

hello all, I had a NEW lucas rotor ( less than 500 miles on it) go bad on me last summer ,was running fine and all of a sudden nothing ,
left me stranded on the highway, luckily I had an old cap and rotor with me . I found that others have had problems with a batch of Lucas rotors - go figure - before this happened to me I had never heard of a rotor going bad.I will keep a spare non lucas with me from now on

Lucas rotors have been doing that for years, I have had several MGs and Jaguars suddenly quit on me over the past couple of decades, change the rotor and they fire right up again. I ALWAYS carry a spare rotor.
