MG MGA - Rubber brake hoses from the master cyl

As you may have guessed I am installing my brake lines and rebuilding my master cylinder. While playing around with the MC it dawned on me that rather than scraping my knuckles and breaking my back trying to install the hard lines to the MC, that the RUBBER HOSES used for the wheel cylinders could be fitted to the MC and this would make for a much simpler installation.

Remove the hard line and banjo bolts ....add two brake hoses....direct them forward on the bulkhaed shelf to a mounting bracket.....and THEN install the hard lines.

Other than not being origional ...does anyone have an opinion about this possible set up !

I don't know if the heat in the engine compartment would have an adverse effect on the rubber hoses, but you may want to take it into consideration. Also, rubber hoses tend to expand slightly under pressure. Adding two more hoses might increase this enough to be detectable as a softer brake pedal?

Using stainless braided hoses will reduce the swelling effect.

You will need to make sure the hose and banjo bolts have the same thread and you will need the copper washers between the lines and the master cylinder.

brilliant!

Gordon, my MC had two banjo bolts, the original one for the clutch and another for the brake that a PO had added. When I replaced the Apple MC (for the second time) I started to put the brake line flare nut straight into the MC but gave up and put the banjo bolt arrangement back in. Much easier to work with.

My idea was to reduce the frustration of having to work in the close confind area around the MC. Undoubtedly mesh covered rubber hoses would be the best thing.I have a rubber brake line from an MG-TD / or a 1600 disc brake car that fits the clutch line perfectly. Sorry I don't know which one it is. I also have noted that by removing the banjo bolt (on the clutch side) that the hard clutch line will mount directly to the adadptor. The only reason I can see for the banjo bolt was to make installation easier. There is no banjo bolt on the brake side due to its open access in the engine compartment.

This is a big weekend for me ,as when I do make the final connection to the MC,this weekend, my car will be ready for it's first "test drive" in THIRTY THREE YEARS. That's how long I ahve being working on my MGA Coupe. It was my first car and I am the second owner. So if you hear a great big YAHOO this weekend you will know its me.
