MG MGA - Slave Cylinder Movement
How far should the slave cylinder push rod move to release the clutch? Thanks, GTF

Hi Gerry. Kinda going from memory here, but I think the slave cylinder push rod has a travel of 1/2" to 5/8". Have you measured the distance between the clutch and the pressure plate (new vs old)? George

George, Thanks for the info. I don't understand what you are asking. The pressure plate is pre-loaded (tight) against the clutch. Regards, Gerry

Hi Gerry. Ya, that wasn't real clear. I was trying to summarize a comment from the MGB bulletin board in 1996 that I had in my reference file. Here's the words used to describe a problem that seemed similiar to your problem - "When the good Borg & Beck disc was laid on the pressure plate surface it was 7/32" high off the pressure plate mounting surface. The bad one was only 3/32", therefore this pressure plate required the clutch arm to move 9/16" which the slave cylinder can't do". Does that make any more sense...? George

George, Yes, it does. The thickness of the new clutch disk appears to be correct. Regards, Gerry
