MG MGA - Slide-in 'clips' in the tranny tunnel?

I spend a lot of time these days under the car, and notice what appears to be "clips" , welded on either side of the tunnel....There are 4 altogether....They look like something should slide into them....(like some sort of cover).
What are they for?
Thanks

I think this was asked & answered on the other site recently. Drainage holes?

Try looking "gearbox Tunnel" dated 25th January. Are these the clips you are talking about?

Richard
Yes, those are the "clips"...
How do they drain anything?...Do they cover holes?

There are four drainage holes at the bottom of each side of the tunnel fore and aft to drain away water in case you accidentally leave your car out in the rain.
The 'clips' are actually covers for the holes to prevent water entering from the outside underneath when driving in bad weather.
I suppose they slope backwards to try and create suction from the air flow beneath to suck the carpet dry!
These holes are easy to block especially if there is any mastik around from when fixing the floorboards.
The tunnel holes should be precisely at floor level............................Mike

Thanks , guys, for the information....Another thing to check when I get back under the car.

You will also find that the floors have a cut-out at these drains. I was very surprised to see scuppers when I removed the tunnel. I found a picture of all this, but I can't highlight them ....everything is painted black.

Since my floor boards were installed before I owned the car, and they are fresh, I hope that the PO left the cutouts for these drains....I have a right-angle tool that I can polk around in there and find out, without pulling up the carpet.
Thanks

How often are you driving your "A" with the top down in the rain? I really don't know how effective all this is. But its British and its a neat thought.
