MG MGA - spark plug colour
| I was wondering if the colour charts for correct fuel mixture are still the same when you run your car on BP Ultimate (98 octane unleaded) with an additive for lead replacement eg. tan porcelain ok, white to lean and black (powdery) to rich. |

| Hi Craig. I'm no expert, but the fuel air mixture does have an effect on the colour of the plugs. Additives in the gas could also influence the colour of the plugs. However, I believe that even with your special gas, an over rich mixture would leave your plugs and exhaust pipe with a black sooty residue. A very lean mixture would likely leave your plugs a very light colour, perhaps with a hard porcelain like glazing on the insulator. Hope this helps. Glenn |
