MG MGA - Specially for Steve Gyles

Steve,
Just browsing ebay & came across this in Austin Healey 3000 section. Thought you may be interested!!
(I was there as I have a project AH 3000 BJ7 that I'm not going to be able to do so I was looking if there was anything similar to see what it might go for). This jack looks in very good nick but hey, you're the expert.

It's not original for the Healey series cars.

The Austin Healey 100-4 BN1 had the 6" Shelley and/or the LJ23 (I need confirmation); the Austin Healey 100-4 BN2, the 100/6 and early 3000s had the LJ21; the Austin Healey 3000 BT7, BN7 and BJ7 twin carburettor cars and through to the tri-carburettor cars from about June 1960 to early BJ8 production used the same LJ225 as the later MGAs; and the Austin Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 Phase II used the later LJ225 with the reinforced collar round the jacking hole.

Your best authoritative information (from where mine was gleaned) is the Anderson/Moment "Austin Healey Restoration Guide" page 133

I have no idea what car used the Shelley 203.

I hope this helps

Cheers

See,
I knew you were the expert!!
By the way, I'm not restoring the Healey, no time, no money, I was looking to sell it.

Ray.

My mouth is watering. The timing is wrong though. The Healey is on my wish list just below a Morgan 3-wheeler with a JAP V-twin.

Hi Steve,
My Brother In Law has an old Morgan 3 wheeler. It is the one with twin rear wheels & 1 at the front. It has a motorcycle engine (175cc)& you have to lift the bonnet & use the kick start. Many times, he's stalled it at the lights & I've had to start it leaving a minor traffic jam behind (he can't walk). The family have now moved down to Somerset, my neice's boyfriend uses it sometimes but not very often. I'm toying with the idea of bringing it back to Birmingham but I'm not sure he'll let me have it!
By the way, if you do know anyone who may want the Healey, I've got to move it as the garage storing it for me are moving early to mid March so I've got to get rid VERY soon. No reasonable offer refused, as they say.
Kind Regards,
Ray.

I am not in a position to take on a Healey at the moment - bit short of space and shortly moving house (I hope) but I am sure that you will have a queue at the door with this post. What state is it in? Got a photo you can post?

If it was the Morgan you were wanting to get rid of, that would be a different matter! I could be interested! That said, it is the 2 wheels at the front and one at the rear I would really want - the type with the J.A.P. v-twin engine out front. My late Father-in-Law usually had 3 at any one time back in the 30s; one restoring; one driving; and one selling. They were dirt cheap then. He used them as a stepping stone from his motorbikes to being able to afford to buy his first 4-wheel car. I wished he had kept a few! Have you got a photo of your Morgan that we can all enjoy?

Cheers

Steve, thought you might like this to whet your appetite. We had a kid at school who had a Morgan 3-wheeler and his Dad owned Tuett's Garage in Halewood(when it was a tiny village, before in became it's present huge infested free-fire zone). It was taken at the MGOC rally at Donington 30/6/85.

So were the others.Maybe someone still has the cars.

I'll chuck the other one in to make you feel nostalgic.

Just browsing through Shelley Jacks on Ebay. I cannot believe one seller on the USA site wanting $1999.99 (£788.22) buy now price for a 7DL! This jack usually sells for between $15 and $50 (£10 and £35).

The guy must be dreaming.

It's the magic "Shelley" name on it, I guess.
