MG MGA - Spin on filter

Does anyone have the P/N for the spin on filters for the Moss adapter? I bought the adapter but they don't give the filter No. - want you to buy from Moss.

Art, I've been using Napa filter #1348 for the past few years. It is a short filter which makes installation easier. I believe it's actually made by Wix.

Thanks everyone.

I use the Fram Tough Guard TG3614. It is the short bodied filter at 3-3/8 OAL. Much easier to intall than the full length version. Originally, I got the Fram PH3600 from Moss when I purchased the adapter.

Coincidentally, the TG3614 is the same filter for my PT Cruiser and Cub Cadet lawn tractor.

Art, being a fellow Ontarian I can send you to your local Canadian Tire, TSC Store or Wal Mart. I installed one of the Moss adapters a few years back and had a difficult time finding a filter that would not bind on the thread when turning it on. The answer was a K&N #HP2009. Good quality filter, threads on easily, has a formed "nut" on the base to get a wrench on (for removal only - hand tight is adequate for installation). It's a little expensive at $14 but works for me !!

Thanks again. It is curious why Moss would not design the filter with a more raised rim to prevent this thread bottoming. Another 1/8" would do it.

Try buying the oil filter takeoff from thinkauto.com

They also do oil cooler kits and original style oil coller lines (with the steel pipes) that are a great deal cheaper than those from anglo parts

Here is some food for thought-

Also WIX # 51348 fits.

Art, that's the same as the Napa filter I've been using (Napa 1348 == Wix 51348).

I'm confussed. I have read in a previous thread a while back that the WIX 51516 filter which is the same as the NAPA 1516 were 2 of the recommended spin on filters. How is the WIX 51348 or NAPA 1348 different? Is it the size of the filter? Thanks, Norb

I think they are the shorter versions. The Wix 513348 is quite short anyway.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but someone may be able to tell me the torque value for installing the Moss adaptor to block mounting bolt. I have one of these adaptors from a bag of spares that came with an engine block I purchased some time ago. No instruction sheet of course. I'm a little concerned regarding mounting given the unusual flared/slotted construction of the bolt.

This will be into a B block.

Down here we have Ryco filters that have the sufficient clearance from the bolt seat to not cause the oil leak problem discused on Barney's site.

Can anyone with a successful installation advise?

The torque is 12 ft lbs only, according to the instruction sheet.

Thank you Art.

For anyone interested, this is the Ryco web address:
http://www.rycofilters.com.au

There is also a NZ address (they are, I believe, a NZ company) which may provide additional filter model details - they did once. Not sure if they are available in USA or UK, but they are a very good filter and very popular here.
